Laeryllian-Labarean War

The Laeryllian-Labarean War is a current military conflict that started with the Declaration of War Against the Labarean Empire by the Kingdom of Laeryll in 903 LC. It has pitted the high elves from the Kingdom of Laeryll against the Labarean Empire.

The Conflict

Prelude

In 903 LC, the Labarean Empire marched into Zhai and put Lloridan under siege in an apparent effort to stifle magic item trade from the subcontinent. The attack on Lloridan led to outrage in Dathyll and added to anti-Labarean sentiments among the elves in the Kingdom of Laeryll, which had existed since the Invasion of Silimanis. The invasion of Zhai -- as well as Labarean mistreatment of elven heritage sites -- emboldened hawks who pushed for military action against the Labareans. After a string of events in the kingdom's capital, which included the death of Supreme General Kalied Ilbaereth and a mysterious hijacking of the Citadel of Prydisyrr, king Olyxx the Young was persuaded to declare war against the gnome empire.

Deployment

Acute phase

The war declaration had come unexpected and many elements within the Kingdom of Laeryll were unprepared for war.
The Green Line
The first move of Olyxx III was to secure a line connecting Zodan's Thumb to Northern Silimanis. This line was built to block land-based troop movement between Silimanis and Zhai, with the immediate of purpose of drying up reinforcements for the siege on Lloridan. The line needed to be constructed quickly and was the joint effort of a new human division placed under Laeryllian authority, wood elves from Northern Silimanis and wizard refugees who had been trained by Red Falcon. The humans were able to quickly build walls and towers, the wizards reinforced these fortifications with druidic magic and the wood elves were stationed to defend what became known as the Green Line.   The Green Line blocked Labarean transport, which was heavily dependent on roads. The Labareans attempted to cross Zodan's Thumb by constructing ships, but the Laeryllians used the Green Line as a basis for raiding Labarean efforts. Attempting to overcome the fortifications, the Battle for the Green Line on Priar 1 904 LC became the first violent clash between the gnomes and the elves.
Disruption
The strategy concocted by Drynieth Herell was to maximally disrupt the ongoing activities of the Labarean Empire, while waiting for allies to help out. Cutting off the Labarean troop movement towards Zhai via the Green Line was only a small part of this. He wanted tribes from Northern Silimanis to strike at key facilities in Silimanis and insisted on hiring Loxo mercenaries to stampede into Labarean encampments east of Zodan's Thumb. Herell's bet was that the Labareans would not know how to deal with an unpredictable front and would regroup, while the Kingdom of Laeryll could bring in maritime power via the dwarves and possibly forces from Zhai. He wanted the elves to focus on Silimanis to regain access to Nossed and fully engage in warfare.
Seeking help
Olyxx III was expecting such help from The Porcupine, but also knew it would take a long time before this help could arrive. He sent out emissaries to the tribes who live east of Zodan's Thumb, including the Loxo. He also pleaded for assistance from the Communes of Qosid, whose help would be necessary to reconquer Silimanis. This led to an extensive deliberation process in the Thallidien Assemblies

Thallidien vote on participation in Laeryllian-Labarean War

In lieu of Gaf Bhytear, Ballelds Landidith has tasked the Gwyfales with collecting a vote by all Communes of Qosid on the thesis: the Communes should collectively join the Crown's war effort against the Labarean Empire.

This table lists the current positions of the different communes, as it is known to Ballelds as per 904-1-36. A formal vote will only commence once all Representatives have joined with a clear mandate.

CommuneRepresentativeMandate
Thellur Garden DistrictDuroyl IshekarredDoes not identify with Dathyll and considers itself as not involved with the conflict. Fears for the integrity of Qosid if it joins the war effort. Prefers to solve dispute in harmony with Labarean Empire.
Thellur Market DistrictBron FaastearLabarean wares are important and appreciated. A diplomatic solution is necessary to deal with Labarean aggression, but not a military one.
Thellur Raven's DistrictTarakaraThe real battle is a spiritual one, against the cultivation of collective anxieties. Introspection will bring us to assuage our inner demons. War will only feed the World Beneath.
Thellur Stone DistrictGameden HuutearCommercial relations with the Empire are lucrative, but war will also support this commune. The Stone District believes the only valid response to Labarean aggression is the sword. Qosid did not choose war, but the war is a fact in need of swift resolution.
Thellur Bridge DistrictCrucillus VaraleiThe war is being forced upon Qosid by king Olyxx the Young, threatening its lives and integrity. The royal court is not alright, given a mysterious death of Kalied Ilbaereth and sudden policy changes on which Qosid has not been consulted. The Bridge District wants Qosid to remain as it is and further demands that the call for war is supported by Gaf Bhytear.
