Ballelds Landidith

True Wizard Ballelds Landidith (a.k.a. The Kingsaver)

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Ballelds Landidith is a high elf born from the family Landidith and a True Wizard in the School of Evocation. Ballelds was born in Prydisyrr and was raised under the auspices of the Dathyllian elite.

Education

Ballelds joined the Royal Academy of Evocation in Prydisyrr in 857 LC, at age 84, on the basis of his natural penchant for shaping reality. Not much used to discipline and structure, he pursued his personal interests in a rather haphazard way and, unfortunately for the Academy, that personal interest revolved around fire. In 888 LC, Ballelds accidentally opened a four-way dimensional gate to the plane of fire, causing part of the Academy to go up in flames. A sizable donation to the Academy by his father ensured not only an expanded reconstruction of its site, but also silence about Ballelds' role in the fire and an additional chance for him to finish his education.   In his final years, Ballelds studied under the supervision of the renowned wizard Nafindil and specialized in fire evocation, which came easy to him and fascinated him without end. In the summer of 903 LC, he only needed to finish two more components: the Wild Test, in which the Academy sends you on a quest that will require you to put your skills into practice, and the first-year mandatory course Introduction to the Protection of Elven Heritage, which he had consistently failed. Nafindil persuaded the Orange Dean Valthyx the Evoker to allow Ballelds to be exempted from the course if his Wild Test revolved around recovering ancient elven heritage.   And so, in Solpenor 903 LC, Ballelds set out to the town Nadi, in the coastal lands east of Silimanis, to pursue a mission set out by both the Prydisyrr Historical Society and the Royal Academy of Evocation. During the excavation of a Wayan temple, Labarean agents had uncovered an ancient elven map, but had lost it in a bet with the dwarf Gondwen Huckstone, who was the proprietor of a bar in Nadi. Ballelds followed the trail and after a series of adventures managed to take the map with him to Prydisyrr, allowing him to graduate in late 903 LC.

Employment

After his training to become a True Wizard in Evocation, Ballelds uncovered a conspiracy that pushed for war against the Labarean Empire. While Ballelds actions caused several elements of this conspiracy to be banned or imprisoned, he proved sympathetic to the cause himself and was contacted by Valthyx the Evoker to join the pro-war campaign. Valthyx had been hoarding magic items and wizards from Zhai in a secret training camp north of Prydisyrr and want to benefit from the trust that King Olyxx III had placed in Ballelds. And so, under the instructions of Valthyx, Ballelds worked as an advisor and diplomat in the inner circle of the King.   Once Ballelds position in this inner circle was no longer tenable (see below), Valthyx offered him a way out of the city and informed Ballelds that his revolutionary role had only just begun. Magically disguised as Gaf Bhytear, Ballelds joined a mission to persuade the wood elves of Qosid to join the war. Although this mission was also carried by his acquaintances Bor Durlyne and Tijl Morgenster, he was not recognised and managed to keep a low profile while the party campaigned for war during their travels towards Thellur.   Just a few days before arriving at the capital, however, Ballelds was knocked unconscious during an attack by Logassed militants who targeted Gaf Bhytear to prevent Qosidian involvement in the war. The spell wore off and Ballelds was transformed into his original shape. He convinced his party the scheme had been necessary to protect Gaf and he continued his journey towards Thellur, where he went to the Thallidien to meet with Sedden Thulyndy, the Gwyfales to prepare for a Thallidien Assembly on Qosid joining the war against the Labarean Empire.   All the while, Ballelds had remained in contact with Valthyx the Evoker, who had updated him on the situation in Dathyll and prompted him to plan ahead for the days after the war, when the humans could threaten Laeryllian hegemony in the region.

Accomplishments & Achievements

The map that Ballelds recovered for his graduation project turned out to point to the legendary Mine of Bothandal, but that is not his greatest claim to fame. Shortly after graduating, Ballelds succesfully interfered with an assassination attempt targeting King Olyxx III, which put him in the spotlight and made him famous among the Dathyllian elites. Together with his fellow traveler Bor Durlyne and his childhood friend Bingverd Flossbottom, Ballelds also uncovered the conspiracy behind the assassination attempt, which involved Illitran Varalei (the Province Keeper of the Small Provinces), Llarm Phywynn (Lieutenant in the Royal Army and head of the City Watch), Falix Fisibird and Ballelds' very own mentor Nafindil.

Failures & Embarrassments

During his Wild Test, Ballelds felt released from the restraints imposed by Dathyllian civilization and engaged in violence, even within communities in Laedor Thilis. His actions in the town Pellvyr were especially upsetting to Sigrid Brightface, a human member of the Fist of Ush who had taken a judicial position in town. On behalf of a number of parties, he put out a warrant for Ballelds in which the high elf was charged with arson, theft, robbery, destruction of property, racketeering, breaking and entering and trade obstruction. Brightface called on the Silimani Gunslingers to track down Ballelds, who reached Prydisyrr in early 904 LC.   In the meantime, Ballelds political star had been rising and he was hand-picked by King Olyxx III to spearhead a diplomatic mission to Qosid. The wood elves in this province are historically distrustful of high elves, who they stereotype as genocidal magic maniacs drunk on power, so when news reached the king that Ballelds was being charged with several abuses, he immediately ordered Ballelds to be removed from the missions and put out a royal warrant.
