Kreani Species in Jiwenia | World Anvil

Kreani

The Kreani, also known as Sun Kre amongst some, was the second/third race of Kre to appear in Jiwenia, appearing at the same time as the Kreol. It is believed that Sun created the Kreani while Moon created the Kreol.   The Kreani was the first and only race of Kre to go extinct and the first race of species to go extinct in Jiwenia. Many speculate the cause of the race's extinction, and only a single writing known as The Last Kreani contains information about the events that took place. Though many legends surround the sudden disappearance, it is universally accepted that the race suffered a disease given to them by Darkness. Some speculate that the disease was an even more twisted version of the taint, while others believe it to have been raw Chaoxian, and few others believe to have just been a disease.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Their skin tone was typically on the warmer side, opposite to their sister race, the Kreol. They were mostly shades of tan, brown, and dark brown, varying in the warmer skin tones.   Most Kreani have brown and blonde hair, with red and black being rarer but nevertheless existent. Their eyes are always on the bright side and are all shades of gold, yellow, or orange. In the dark, their eyes take on a considerable glow to better help them see, though this still did little for their sight at night. Their ears, like the other two elven races, are pointed. Unlike their sister races, their ears shot up and were laid closer to the head; they were also considerably longer.

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Similar to the other Divine Species, a great deal of Jawsīc is known due to the Kreani. The diary written by the young Kreani was written entirely in Jawsīc, allowing historians to further their knowledge and add words and characters perhaps not known before to the list. Though the truth will never be known, Kren accounts say that Kreani also communicated using clicks and chirps, sometimes infusing sounds with Jawsīc to make an almost song-like dialect.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Information regarding the culture of the Kreani is few. Most of the information regarding them comes from the parchment that the last remaining Kreani wrote and what has been found and gathered. Books have either eroded due to time or have been buried and damaged. Unlike some species, Kreani did not need water to survive but a sweet nectar, found abundantly where they lived. This nectar comes from a plant appropriately named the Desert Sun Plant. At sunrise, the flower would bloom and begin producing the nectar. While, at sun-fall, the flower closes up and waits for the next day. It is during the day that the Kreani would collect the nectar and disperse it to others. The nectar, known as Sun Nectar, was all the Kreani would drink.

The Kreani were great architects and lovers of education and religion. They were firm believers in their god, Sun, and constructed great monuments for him. Besides monuments, they also built great homes and school buildings, some still standing despite time. Though not livable, their ruins still stand, facing the rising of the sun.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

The Kreani viewed death as something to celebrate. Death meant that an individual would be able to see Sun and be forever guided by him. Once an individual died, the Kreani would take the body and burn them in a ritualistic way when the sun was highest. This was supposed to guide the spirit upwards and towards Sun and give a final farewell. Along with death, it was believed by the Kreani that Sun took sacrificial suicides as well. Meaning that as long as the correct words were spoken before the ‘act’ was done, Sun would take the body like any other.

History

In the beginning, Sun and Moon both combined their might to create the Kren race. After this, Sun decided to make a species similar to the Kren in his own personal image. And thus, the Kreani was born. What took place between their creation and their destruction is mostly unknown. Despite records being found, information regarding their fall is little. What is known is that the Kreani worshipped Sun and made great temples in his name. The remains of the Kreani can be found only in Iseuzai and their ruins found in 87ED, meaning that the Kreani did not live long enough to truly enter the Era of Divide and spread out like other species. This also cements records stating that all Kre species originated from Iseuzai.   When the Kreani ruins were found, evidence of the lack of maintenance was copious, allowing historians to surmise that they had been gone for at least a century. This roughly puts their destruction close to -100 to -200.   Many historians try to guess what caused the race to go extinct. The only valid information available is a written parchment by the very last Kreani, a young girl who recorded the events through her eyes in a diary type format. She describes what sounds like a deadly disease being the cause of the Kreani downfall. Due to the lack of other species around them and the Kreani girl words the illness as sudden and unknown and the disease disappearing with the race caused historians to turn their guesses to divine intervention.   As for the disease, as stated before, little is known. The disease caused the individual to spit up blood, sometimes entire puddles. It also caused sweating and stomach cramps. Most of these symptoms are also symptoms one sees when a non-Cimmerian contracts the taint, further leading to belief that Darkness played a part in the downfall of the race.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

It is known that the Kreani had run-ins with their sister races, mostly due to the known fact that a war known as the Ise’kpaag War had taken place. History will never know how the Kreani felt about said war as the only recounts came only from Kreol and Kren. Despite warring, it is believed that the Kreani still had neutral relations with the other three tribes as they are spoken of in trade agreements numerous times in Kreol and Kren text.
