The Winter Lands

The People: The people of the Winter Land are trained warriors capable of taking out multiple opponents before they fall. Their society and culture is all about surviving. But the Winter Land is not kind to those that try to survive it, monsters stalck the night and while other lands might have seasons were they can farm but the Winter Land is stuck in eternal winter. Warmth is scarce and food is scarcer. Most families outside of the forts and the great clans hunt for food and gather furs selling them on at more permanent settlements. Their is also another way to live in the Winter Land and that is to raid other settlements and merchants ships. Often those that practice raiding are not as often hungry, but the seas are dangerous and many a ship is in storms and monster attacks. This makes lumber valiabul and being on the cost is a double edged sword with the pros being the ability to raid themselves and fish but vaunrabul to raids of others. The people of the Winter Land are collectively referred to as the Frozen ones or the Childran of Ice.     Settlements: Most of the people that live in the Winter Land are nomads that form small bands and settle temporarali residances in the area close to the sea see reasons above. However those clan leaders that are clever enough keep their longships hidden in coves, caves and bays while the main village is further inland. Their are exceptions like the Seven great clans and the Court of the Blood Queen. For the Great Clans they have huge Fortresses and control many smaller clans how come for protection, the standards for living here are generally higher. The Court of the Blood queen is a legendary vampire that is in conflict with Volfric Voidgazer about the command of the Fortress of Never Ending Winter.     Forts: Their are four forts that are across the Winter Land. All the forts have a fey ruler or seem to, for example the Fortress of Never Ending Winter has been infultrated by the Druids of Lo-Kathe, a vampire rules the land and the winter Eladrin Sergil  remains in unbrakabul disper. Every year one of the Forts is coshen to house all the leaders of the clans how come. Here great fests are held alliances are forged, gruges are settled, wars are declared and deals broken. The festivities can last up to a month and it is called the time of change. Those how live in the forts all year round are explorers, cultists and druids that come here for shelter. Most of the year the forts are infested with monsters and it takes a lot of effort in removing these neasts. More powerful and intelagent monsters are often invited to the time of change when it will be held in the fortress that create resides in.   Clans: In the Winter Land their are many small clans often just one settlement while great clans are what you get when combining multibul small clans together. Their are seven great clans. The Eidar  The Frostwalkers The Flame  The Blackguard The Fanged ones The White Dragons  The Frost Shields

Geography

Most of the landscape in the Winter lands is covered in pine forest and ice tundra some places have mountain ranges such as the Ice crown mountains or the Frozen peaks. According to myth, there are even marshes where the remnants of a long lost elvish empire can be found destroyed by the Wild Hunt.   Forest:  There are three forests in the Winter Land the largest of is the Forest of Ice and Snow. In the middle are the Frozen peaks and the Ice Crown Mountains. The Forest of Ice and Snow contains several legendary locations such as the Hall of Frozen Tears and the Tower of Osodera. The forest is home to several smaller clans who remain safe under its trees despite its dangers such as Greifwinds, lycanthropes, undead, aberrations, the Red Riders, monstrosities and insane humanoids. A legendary location in the Forest of Ice and Snow is the Heart of Ice believed to be the heart of a dead god fallen to earth. The Winter Wood is technically a battleground since the barriers between plans are shaky at best which makes several fey creatures come out causing the battles in the Feywild to spill over onto this site this makes skirmishes start between the Unseelie and the Seelie courts. The forest is also a dumping ground of the failed experiments of the Druids of Lo-Kathe. The final wood is the Ice Forrest and it is home to many magical Ley Lines that run through them causing it to be a powerful magic location however the radiations of these forces makes many strains of Mongrelfolk in the area. Strange metals are also found in the wood.   Mountains:  Two mountain ranges are in the Winter Land. One is the Ice Crown Mountains which are generally to the south famous for having a large population of hags as well as owlbears however there is one legendary monster in here she is known as the Frostmaiden. She appears 7 foot tall with the head of a snowy owl, black talons, cloven hooves and greyish wolf fur and a pair of curved goat horns coming from its head. Finally, a clock made of pristine white snow she wears can transform into eagle wings. These mountains are also known for a large clan of Frost Giants. The biggest one in the Winter land. The other mountains hold a large population of yetis and giant kin. These mountains are also home to three tribes, tribe of the wolf, tiger and elk.   Moor: The Ice Moor is the northernmost swamp in the Winter Land. It is also where the set of the Ancient Empire of elves was and so many elven spirits such as ghosts, banshees and spectres. The Ice Moor is also home to a large population of Caroblepas as well as many Verbeeg clans. Fey touched Firbolgs also live in the marshes. The Frozen Moor is a bit different for it rests near a lake of boiling mud whose heat travels out into the marsh. This heat made several strange plants and fungi grow. The Frozen Moor is also known for sinkholes and other boiling pits. This is also where much of the Elven Empire was. The Frozen moor also has a number of Green Hags that use the strange plants of the marsh. There are also several Lizardfolk and kobolds in the marsh because in the middle of the Boiling lake of mud there is a citadel half submerged. This elven citadel is home to one of the nine ancients dragons of Isildur, he is a black dragon by the name of Kyrgof Shadoweave and is capable of archmage level power, Right now Kyrgof is pursuing dracholichdom since he is over 2700 years. Kyrgof is well known in the surrounding area.

Ecosystem Cycles

The Winter Land is its own demiplane a fact which very few know. Because of its nature as a demiplane the day and night cycle is different than in other parts of Isildur, this is also the reason because of frostfire (the plane of ice is closer to the Winter Land since it is also located in the Etherial plane), northern lights and the abundance of ghosts and spirits around however most of those spirits are drawn to Shadowfall due to a Ley Line which draws the spirits their.   Their are relly no ecosystem cycles because of the infinite winter and the only way to mark the passage of time is when animals breed which seem to know when to do it.

Localized Phenomena

The main magical phenomenon is frostfire a fire that appears as ice blu and will freeze anyone in ice how gets bought by the flame however both ice and water fail to quell the flames only normal fire can put out Frostfire and it is a very large problem when massive storms of this erupt across the land freezing entire clans in their way. Now to combat this threat the Flame and the White Dragon clan have formed an alliance to combat these flames this alliance is what dragged the White Dargon clan into the war between them and the Frost Shield clan when they attacked the Flame Clan.

Fauna & Flora

Those creatures that are listed below are only a few of the creatures in the Winter Land here are however creatures you could not find elsewhere in Isildur.   Ice Trolls are troll variant however the most useful part of an ice troll is its heart. They are on the more powerful side of trolls.   Verbeeg are giant kin to the Frost Giants and keep in tribes, often in the marshes or caves often being the leaders of orcs, ogres or goblinoids. The longstriders are sometimes found in villages as herbalists and druids.   Frost Giant:  While the Ice Crown Mountains near the White Dragon clan are where Frost Giants do not go other parts have hole clans of them. Their Jarls meeting on Jarlmount which is on the highest peak in the Frozen Peaks. The most powerful of these jarls is Lynthe Frostaxe how rules the northern parts of the Frozen Peaks.   White Dragons: The White Dragons of the Winter Land differ from the dragons further north where they are one of the apex predators. The White Dragons here are more animalistic and less intelligent than other dragons. However, other than the fact these dragons rely on their instincts and can't speak, they can still form a strategy. In the Winter Land, the White Dragon Clan uses these dragons as mounts in both their battle against frostfire and the Frost Shield clan.   Yeti are one of the main dangers of the mountains their powers to hunt in the snow, making them very deadly.   Remorazes are quite rare since many go hunting these creatures when they are still young, this has made them almost near extinct. They were once one of the most dangerous creatures, but they are mostly stories after the destruction of their young.   Crag Cats are strange because of their resistance to magic however they are one of the more dangerous predators on the level of the yeti because they hunt in groups of up to two dozen cats. Their fur can be made into magical items resistant to magic. It is a wonder not all of these creatures are extinct.

Natural Resources

There are few resources to be had on the Winter Land, you can not farm crops neither can you keep livestock it is an empty wasteland to its core filled with monsters. The only natural resources are the mountains filled with ore and minerals that one can harvest, but everything comes at a cost for many things lie buried under the mountain things that shudent be opened to the world ever again.    To get the things they need the people of the Winter Land to raid other settlements to gain such things as food and other resources.

History

Isildur as a whole has had many villains and heroes throughout the centuries and recounting every tale is impossible however the Winter Land has not been that important to the main history since the great clans have sort of always excited and how they began have already been written down otherwise most events that effected Isildur effected the Winter land the same way as the rest of the courts (if you want more information find the timeline of Isildur).

Tourism

The Winter Land is most often visited by adventurers, outcasts and merchants. Both the adventurers and the outcast/criminals come here to start a new life, gain glory or just wreak havoc the merchants generally come with food supplies and trade them for clan made goods.
