Arcenhelm

Arcenhelm is a vast underground city made of Shadowsteel that is deeply mysterious. Atop the entrance to the city is a small shanty town that has been built to house researchers. The largest structure here are the 3 insane asylums that have been built here due to the madness of the city.

Purpose / Function

The purpose of Arcenhelm is unknown to those mages and explorers that have studied it and the only thing known is that it amplifies dark magic.

Alterations

The city seems to exude madness and very few changes have been made the largest one being the three camps made by researchers and mages. These are relatively small with about 60 individuals each. These have to be rotated out so that they don't succumb to madness.

Architecture

The cities architecture is weird, to say the least. Floating houses and buildings, impossible distances and much larger rooms than the outside suggests. In addition to this, the city seems to change and shift making it impossible to map. All the buildings look identical except for the structure in the centre of the city which is a massive palace called the Palace of Broken Minds. It is said that those how venture into the city and speak get lost for decades on end find their way to this Palace. When some of them return they speak of a nightmarish figure description vary and a black eboony pool. These are the souls that made it to the centre.

History

Arcenhelm was discovered in 87 E.F. when a merchant found it by falling through the ice and discovered the buried city. In the following several years' several archaeologists dug the parts of the city that were buried out of the ice and found the city in perfect condition. It has however not been much explored as those how to try to enter further vanish sometimes reappearing years later as a drooling mess. This city has fascinated mages how regularly come to study the city to study it. It was for example discovered that the entire city is made of shadowsteel a dark metal said to be infused with mortal souls used in the casting of curses and extremely rare on Isildur. This is the most Shadowsteel seen in one area since the Eldar Evils ruled the world as they would construct castles out of the stuff. This is the largest concentration of Shadowsteel in the world and yet no one has tried to tear the city down.
