Driferra

The Bardic school in the Daitorian city of Glenarm.

Purpose / Function

The purpose of Driferra is to hone the skills of those who were touched by chaotic magic sometime in their life, and summon these powers with their emotions. typically involved in music to draw upon specific emotions, the Bard Keep hones various types of Bards throughout their life.

Alterations

As more Bards were discovered in the world following Long Night, each was found to respond to different forms of training. Originally Bard Keep served more as an internment camp for the dangerous mages, until Glenarm became a member of the kingdom of Daitor and this policy was changed. Over the years additional wings and buildings have been constructed to make Driferra into a school with different approaches to different Bards.

Architecture

Driferra's central building is an ancient Keep of Dwarven design, from which the Glenarm militia originally lived. over time Driferra was repurposed as a makeshift internment camp, until finally being re-purposed for the final time by Daitor into a school for Bards to hone their skills. Now Driferra is an expansive school grounds with numerous buildings for each of the different 'classes' that Bards may undertake.

History

Driferra was constructed by Dwarven masons during the founding of Glenarm, to provide a sense of security during the strange new world and to fend off Orcs, and other monstrosities. For years Driferra served as the military heart for Glenarm until a number of Bards and wild mages were discovered, and the Keep was re-purposed into an internment camp, the cells of Driferra overflowing with mages. As Glenarm was pressured to join the budding kingdom of Daitor, they were swayed with the offer of aid to Driferra. at first this began as simple prison expansions, until multiple escape attempts from the mages led to  a halt on construction. the idea came from necessity, to offer the Mages a home rather than a cell and entice them to stay. Mages of all kinds were brought to Driferra to offer aid to the untrained, honing their wild skills with various approaches until music was discovered to be the most effective in most cases. Years passed, and further training regiments were discovered as different Bards were recruited. Driferra has come a long way from the darkness of its beginning, and while those with Wild Magic are no longer forced to live in Driferra they are withheld a number of civic rights until the instructors of Bard Keep give them a specialized seal that indicates their control of their magic.
