Personal history

Born in Ashnor in 168 LS to a pair of Orhindur immigrants, Marrin grew up amidst two clashing worlds, that of a traditional Rhonnonr upbringing at home and the Erushar world around them. This led to them developing a strange world view, one where everything is done for the Clan, and the Clan is everyone you see fit. By the time they reached adulthood, Marrin had come to understand their parent’s seemingly strange position on things, but had also come to respect them greatly.

After leaving home Marrin would spend some time working various jobs, tagging along with a handful of childhood friends. They would work as fishermen, lumberjacks, caravan guards, menial cleaners and more, just to stick with their friends. Despite this dedication to their comrades, Marrin’s friends seemingly did not share the same dedication, and what started out as seven friends taking on the world slowly shrunk down to just Marrin and one other.

While protecting a fleeing caravan from Erunur marauders Marrin would lose their final friend, though Marrin would manage to pull through. For a small time after this they would wander the Asraki Basin as an adventurer, until they met an odd duo, a young Human/Charai pair that seemed to be attempting to also be adventurers. Marrin thought that they were attempting to be adventurers because, despite the Charai’s good strategies and the Human’s supernatural abilities, they should have made for a formidable duo. Yet their inexperience cost them as many fights as they won, and soon Marrin found themselves taking pity on the young adventurers.

They would offer to join this small party, to which the young David Ansuranth would graciously accept, and introduce his human companion as ‘Weeping’ Steve. As the trio would adventure Marrin would take care of both of the younger adventurers, cooking and cleaning after themselves, maintaining everyone’s gear as a hobby, and providing pointers here and there. They would also caution against rash actions, which quickly got onto the nerve of David, until the two had a confrontation, where David expressed his annoyance at Marrin’s constant mothering and how they treated David and Steve as if they were children.

Marrin tried to play this off, until David hit a nerve when he claimed that Marrin’s former friends had left for this very reason. In a flash David found himself suddenly prone with Marrin’s foot in his back, and Weeping Steve paralysed by a simple stare. Calmly, Marrin would explain that the duo were capable, but lacked the experience to properly survive in this life, and that Marrin was attempting to keep them alive for as long as possible in order for them to gain the required experience. Perhaps they had gone a bit overboard, but their entire goal is to keep everyone alive and healthy, and Marrin can’t do that if David decides to lead them into a Dragon’s Hoard unprepared.

For a short while after this confrontation there was a tense air about the party, until Marrin dragged David out of the line of fire while taking hits themselves. It was this act that made David finally realize that Marrin meant what they said, and that perhaps he was not as experienced as he should be. Post-fight David would apologize and Marrin would forgive him, leading to half a decade of somewhat prosperous adventuring.

With their purses never feeling too heavy, the trio began to lament how much of the work in their field was on the Frontier, though they seemed to dread the idea of heading out there. Eventually, however, when Marrin noticed just how much the shipments of Iron were selling for, they decided to encourage the other two to head out to the Frontier. After a mostly dull journey, save a few skirmishes with Laylos Marauders, the Trio would arrive in Garia, and entered into a four-year cave mining contract in Undreathlon.

The work was hard, the pay was alright for the risk, but the hours were long and back breaking. As their contract came closer and closer to an end, Marrin sought out other avenues for them to earn a better income, and found it in the bromance duo of Weston Garcia and Samiel Therossi. The pair were down in Undreathlon on a vacation of sorts, and met Marrin in a tavern one night, discussing their various jobs. It turned out that Weston and Samiel worked for a private mining guild in the city of Kharahal to the north and were looking into getting into Deep Mining, a highly dangerous yet lucrative business.

Marrin has always been one for weighing pro’s and con’s, yet after much though and questioning of Samiel and Weston they came to the conclusion that, with the right team, they could Deep Mine in relative safety. They brought this idea to David, who was more than done with the Undreathlon job and ready to get back to exploring, though Steve was a bit harder to convince. After much debate and finally convincing Steve that he would be fine, the trio would leave Undreathlon with Samiel and Weston and head to Kharahal.

Since then Marrin has mostly spent their time counselling David and acting as a second in command for the party, though they almost never seem to have the great sums of cash they earn available to them. In the most recent years Marrin has thought that David has finally reached the right level of experience for them to back off on their smothering, yet with the recent shakeup of David’s confidence, things will change, most likely for the worse.

While Marrin was lost in the Underdark they kept uncovering Duergar slaving operations and took it upon themselves to free the prisoners. Within a few days Marrin found themselves the head of a small slave revolt, working day and night to keep them safe, fed and healthy, at Marrin’s own expense. Utilizing a powered substance a freed slave could make, Marrin would temporarily become more aggressive and beast-like in their demeanour, savagely destroying the Duergar they came across.
