Session 10: What Lies Underneath

General Summary

DATE: 14/01/241

• Party started outside of the Wall in the Underdark
• Approached after some investigating, looked like a colossal concrete wall with small walkways and lifts on the outer side
• Upon approaching some Dourai soldiers descended and, after a brief interrogation, took them onto the lift and up the wall, not before Revenants spawned and attempted to overrun them, though where held back by flamethrowers
• Upon entering the Wall and walking to its central gap the party sees half a dozen or so surface dwellers in cages, the remnants of the Deschend breaching team, as well as the large destroyed section of wall where the team had blasted into Mahan
• On the other side of this hole a small platform had been built by the team and here Narron stated that he could not continue on, though summoned Gideon, an aspect of the Legion, to guide the party to the right place
• Within the walls they see what appears to be an enormous collection of towers, esoteric in design, stretching up multiple kilometres, though a few hundred meters away from their current position, surrounded by a wasteland
• While walking and talking the party learn that, for Gideon, time seems to have diverged nearly five thousand years prior
• They come across many golems similar to Mosfren, though destroyed
• After entering the city and climbing a lot of stairs the party find themselves walking deserted and depowered streets, where the see a Mural of an unknown man leading what appear to be citizens with the Mahan words for Sacrifice repeated three times below. Bubba hears distant metallic screaming
• As they wander the party finds a Herald, an entity from Outside the Primal God’s domain, apparently there to enjoy the beauty of the city, though Gideon warned them to stay away from it, and so they did
• Coming to a large closed door (think vault doors from Fallout 1 & 2), Gideon opens it via a touch pad, though right after touching it a portable Anti-Magic field generator is thrown at and hits Grimmie, which causes his illusion to fade, and the party sees his true form, one of a Tiefling
• Behind the party stands a humanoid mostly replaced by machinery, with a glowing red crystal in a cavity in the chest, which throws said cavity, dealing Con drain
• More of the creatures begin to appear from around the area, and Bubba confirms that these creatures are making the same metallic screaming from earlier
• Performing a fighting retreat the party falls back through the door, where Grimmie fails to close it, then manages to brute force the door, though one of the creatures latches onto Bubba and begins to drain their life force, significantly, though is saved by Gideon
• Not wanting to see if more of the monsters lurk in this new district the party rushes forwards, though many take fatigue as they climb a lot more stairs
• Comings to an imposing castle made of strange metal and stone the party see in the courtyard thirteen chairs array around a central point, where the nuclear shadow of a man has been imprinted onto the stairs behind a floating crown
• Here Gideon returns the artifact to the Legion and, in exchange, it places the crown in his hands
• Crown is given to Grimmie who stores it in their Arcane Pocket, while Jarren wanders the castle halls and discovers a mural of Fourteen individuals definitely standing against what appears to be an amorphous mass with six cores, a sacrificial table and the Herald from before, which gives him a small link of chains and tells him to give it to someone he knows
• Gideon and Lohren have a touching moment before the party departs, as both are men bound by loyalty to one greater than they are
• Party ascends the elevator into the Gravekeeper Manse and walk back to Kharahal, as the Legion is quite after having its artifact returned
• Upon returning they message Zazz to return Narron, whom was waiting in the Drillship
• Lohren, Bubba and Jarren head over to the Gravekeeper compound to hand over the Crown though, before going in Lohren feels drawn to put it on, and the other two struggle to stop it. Before he can put it on, however, it is wrestled from his grasp by Emmeric, a Gravekeeper, casting mage hand and pulling it from Lohren’s hands. Abigail, another Gravekeeper, opens the door behind Lohren and, using the bag the crown was in just before, snatches it from the air and tosses it into a broomcloset.
• Taking the three adventurers inside Abigail reams them about how they fucked up while Emmeric sits, spacing out
• During this time Grimmie is off seeing if any of his friends returned, which they had not, though he employs a carriage to take Weston and Samiel home once they return
• After coming back home Narron is in for a shock as he is informed the Crown has been brought to them, and feels the draw of it, even from at least ten meters away
• Narron promptly passes out and is dragged upstairs by Abigail
• A few minutes later Narron comes back down stairs and is informed of the rest of what happened, laments with Emmeric and then cures the Con Drain Bubba suffered
• Bubba and Lohren head off to the Cathedral of Saint Anellor while Jarren seeks out Relar Deschend and Grimmie, whom arrives as they leave, returns home
• Bubba receives word from Ylros that she is pleased with Bubba’s actions and that Bubba is where they are supposed to be, which Bubba does not agree with
• Lohren, whom feels guilty about having a vulnerable mind, asks openly to anything that will listen how he can redeem himself and how to fight against these kinds of attacks in the future. He is responded to by Ylros whom gives him a vision of a temple as it should be, then as it will be if he does not intervene (assailed by Tsuarinax and demons), though a reward of an item, an Ioun stone that protects the mind, lies at the heart of the Temple.
• Lohren paints this scene at the Fifth Pillar (Got a 33) then passes out, Grimmie studies the painting and knows the location depicted, the Temple of Least Resistance, some history of the location etc and assembles a dossier for Lohren to pour through, then heads to bed
• Bubba steals another boat, takes it to the centre of the lake and meditatesJarren is unable to find Relar
