The Old Nobles' Quarter

"It is with heavy heart and strong conviction that I strip my brother of his title and send him to the gallows, for he has committed a sin most grievous against the noble houses of this land."
— Lady Griseldis at her brother's execution

Out Past the Tower

Lies a small, overgrown path to the south, leading to what used to be the Nobles' Quarter - back when Feyport had Nobles. From the townsfolk and history books, one can gather that the Nobles were either framed or sold out by a previous lord to save his own hide when he double-crossed the Unseelie. Now what lies left of the five crumbling mansions is a stark reminder of the dark history this bustling city tries to hide. At the end of a long courtyard filled with decimated gardens sits five looming mansions. From left to right, they bear the coat of arms for the Houses of Virnai, Davenmour, Brandlei, Whitlow, and Abaseul. Brandlei Manor is slightly larger than the rest, as they were the leaders of the Noble Alliance. As you've looked around, you've noticed that The Nameless, when enraged, seems to have a 'scorched earth' policy. Everything is either destroyed, dead, or undead.

House Virnai

Their door has an upright lion carved on it.
The heroes that sealed Vecna, the Dread King of Oerth, were decapitated and had their animated heads stuck on spikes. The display case for the Vecna trophies was busted and the spot where the amulet had been is now empty. The party took the rapier and left the mummified left hand and right eye of Vecna. Galbassi Virnai used that very sword to weaken and ultimately seal Vecna the Dread King into an amulet specifically crafted for him. The hand and eye are the only physical remnants left of him. In one of the rooms was a mysterious mirror with the label, 'Mirror of Alryese' that seems to show you a different past life every time you look at it. The last head of House Virnai was Adalolf, but it seems House Virnai also descends from a survivor of Naomi's village; she found the diary of Ingunde Virnai that speaks of Ieyfer Keydove, her father. It contains some details of Naomi's village and talks about him changing his name to Virnai.

House Davenmour

Their door has a coiled basilisk carved on it.
This manor was in a terrible state, but you met a sentient skeletal hand and found the members of the house all trapped in a room full of standing mirrors, the sad tiefling faces staring back at you from them. Reek almost got crushed by a chandelier and there are killer statues in the art gallery. Also perfectly preserved pie.

House Brandlei

Their door has a phoenix carved on it.
Holds even more surprises, as Rory Chaffigan from town is actually the last remaining Brandlei, named Helliphis. He says he's housing fugitives of sorts in his house and not only is the place spotless, there are magical roses in every color covering the entire mansion. You learn these are gifts to soothe The Dom of Dusk, Lunar Empress Amaltharis, Prince of Astronomy, who is hiding with her children, the feylune, in a small pocket plane called The Mondreik. This plane is invisible to the naked eye unless moonlight falls upon it.

House Whitlow

You've yet to explore, but you know there is a survivor; an elven man named Finmiel.

House Abaseul

Their door has a dragon carved on it.
The stained glass windows all have infernal runes of protection and warding incorporated into their design and the walls inside are covered in indecipherable runes painted in blood. You've learned the house was infernal to some degree and used runes to come and go from the hells, namely a teleportation rune upstairs to get to a specific place in Hell and a summoning circle downstairs for the fiend they work with/for. You think maybe an archdevil is their family ancestor and they help him with his work. The summoning circle is protected by two pale corpses that have no damage on them but sunken eyes and dead skin. They have nothing but their clothes on them. After talking with their ghosts you learned they sacrificed themselves to protect the portal the demons come through in the basement. The demons then go back to hell through the portal upstairs.
"Be careful near those old houses. I don't know what's creepier, them or that old hag hut out by Naiad Lake"
— Kra'ax Three Claw, Bartender of 'Spirited Away'

Investigation

  • The young elven man almost eaten by shadows, Ranmiel Whitlow, is a secret survivor of one of the five wiped-out Noble lines.
  • Rory Chaffigan is also a secret survivor of the nobles, hailing from house Brandlei.
