Elspeth Murdoc is the youngest of 12 Selkies born 250 years after the end of The Great War. Her parents spent their lives fighting back against the dwarven rule and so when they died, she chose to carry on their work. Elspeth now plays a key role within her community and her religion, spending a lot of time working with The Church of the Faithful. Throughout her life she has saved many selkies from death and persecution but her work has always put her own life at risk.   Anyone who knows Elspeth would describe her as kind, friendly and hardworking, she always puts others before herself. However, she is also ruthless and determined. No one will ever get in the way of her getting what she wants.

Personal history

Childhood

Elspeth was born the youngest of 12 children to Elaina and Faldo Ruinen. Until her sixteenth birthday, she never set foot on the land but instead watched her parents as they made frequent trips to the surface to aid other selkies. She was an adventurous child who always took risks and pushed the boundaries, often ending up in trouble. This tendency followed her into adulthood as, after her parents died, she committed to carrying on their work with no regard to her own life.

Adulthood

In her late 50's, Elspeth founded the church of the faithful in order to continue her work in protecting selkiefolk across the Isles. Although not a religion in itself, the church promotes the following of Alixya, and the way of life before the war. To begin with, Elspeth's goal was to regain freedom for the selkies, but it is becoming ever clearer that she lets her personal anger at the Dwarves. influence her work. The longer she lets the grudge fester, the more of her good work she risks losing...

Education

Like most of the post-war selkiefolk, Elspeth has had no formal education. As the selkies were driven into the sea, educating their children in schools on the land became almost impossible. Although unable to read and write, Elspeth had great wisdom, knowledge and knows songs and stories from all over the Isles.

Known Languages

Elspeth speaks common, and silvan (the ancient tongue of the selkiefolk) although she cannot read or write in either language. She is also fluent in the language of Rea and often uses it for ceremonial purposes due to her position as a communtity elder. Elspeth is unusual in the fact that she can speak common as most selkies born after the war only learned the Silvan tongue.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Elspeth's parents died at the hands of the dwarves when they swam ashore to celebrate the winter solstice; Elspeth was only 20 at the time. She never allowed herself to grieve for them and instead made it her goal to protect others and avenge their deaths. Although the youngest, Elspeth soon became the protector of all her siblings, pouring her energy and attention on to others to distract herself from her grief.   Even a couple hundred years later, she isn't content with passing her role onto anyone else. She leads The Church of the Faithful, manages a community, and helps to raise a family, but she is too proud to recieve any help.

Social

Religious Views

Elspeth is a member of The Church of the Faithful, a religious organization comprised of any who still follow the ways of Alixya. They work to try to free the selkifolk (and other free peoples) from under the reign of the dwarves, and to re-establish the way of life before The Great War.
