Elves

Humanoid race that was at one point the most dominant race on Earth, but now has been reduced to nomadic drunks or bitter nobles stuck in the dead woods. Though there are a few that reside on the world of Alfheim, which resembles a fantastical landscape over grown with plant life enrichen with aether and larger than life beast.   Elves magic affinity is quite potent, to the point that 80% are capable of magic and was what allowed to survive as long they did on Earth. Now they are few in numbers and have little resources to help them cope as their numbers reduce every century.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They greatly resemble humans when it comes to their physical appearance. The main difference noted is them lacking the body parts that have been deemed unnecessary such as the pinky finger and toe (though those with mix blood might still have them), and the common pointy ears. On Alfheim though, with their new environment and interbreeding with native nature spirits there has resulted in some developing a slight glow and having multi colored eyes.

Genetics and Reproduction

Similar to their human cousins they reproduce and breed much in the same way as they do. They can also interbreed with their human cousins since the two aren't that genetically different from one another.

Growth Rate & Stages

Thanks to years of careful breeding and their bodies deterioration being slowed by the overuse of aether has resulted in them aging at an incredibly slow rate. They would normally age like a normal human until reaching young adolescent where the slow aging begins to take affect and on average don't reach late teenage appearance until their thirties or forties.

Ecology and Habitats

Tend to live in areas with dense forest as very few humans live in these areas and they developed a technique where they can recycle aether from plant life and leylines to maintain consistent levels to preserve their health.

Additional Information

Social Structure

In a social structure consisting of purely Elves or a majority of Elves, then those at the top of the political power tends to be the oldest, wisest, and who have the highest potential for magic. It wouldn't also be surprising to see those whose blood was at one point mixed with the Deities to be a part of this hierarchy as well given how high much the Deities are in high regard to their people. Those who are at the very bottom are the rare few who are not capable of performing magic and are the closest to resembling their human relatives. Though they aren't necessarily mistreated, you are least likely to see anyone like them in a position of power.

Average Intelligence

Though considered to be one of the wisest of the mortal races and having one of the best knowledge keeping system, they do not however posses a great grasp on current events and modern day technology due to their isolationist behavior.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Capable of sensing aether without needing to activate detection, and they also have a keen sense of hearing, touch, and sight.

Civilization and Culture

Gender Ideals

Gender roles are usually relatively equal compared other races. This is thanks to magic being a practice that can be picked up regardless of gender and so any seen weakness within an individual were easily compensated for. So many members of both genders are able to progress in their society with no issue, so long as they developed a reputation and insight that shows their potential.   They are the kind of people that are usually deeply rooted in nature and as a result they firmly believe that one's gender is determined at birth regardless of personal philosophy.

Average Technological Level

Given that they rely heavily on their magical ability and knowledge of the land to survive day to day life, their progression when it comes to technology isn't as advanced as the other races. Though this is mostly true for those who reside in Elvin owned settlements and or territories. Their nomadic groups and those who live among humanity via cloaking have adjusted to using a few basic communication devices such as the cellphone to vehicles likes cars.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Many in their settlements and territories take great pride in their heritage and normally look down on those who have forsaken their family history regardless of their reasons. This being that they believe in that having a solid grasp of one's history and those who they are connected to, can help one learn from past mistakes and improve. However, since they put so much emphases on heritage they rarely mix their blood with other races, with the exception of the Deities for that would be considered an honor.   Intelligence and wisdom are ideals that they take great pride in and believe one should always drive to improve ones mind in order to improve their skills and personal well being.

History

On the ancient Earth lied the primitive race of Homo Sapiens, they weren't necessarily a strong species but they were crafty. As time went on they like a few sentient creatures would slowly grow sensitive and adept to the presence of aether. During the earlier years of magic and Deities, a group of humans that were proficient enough with aether would cooperate with each other and form entire communes around their own kind. Throughout the last few millennia these groups slowly changed and evolved into a new breed of creatures dubbed the Elves.

Earth Elves

Elves as a race was really well developed when it came to their society. Due to their evolution over the years over half of their population were capable of manipulating aether to perform magic and have been developing a rich culture that promoted progress in the fields of science. For a while this was good enough for them as this allowed them to remain at the top of the global powers and even ruled over a few of their more 'primitive colleagues' like the humans and dwarves. However when the Forsaken arrived onto the planet and fought the resident Deities, he decided to attack the most advance of mortal that ruled the planet, which meant the Elves. During the conflict they tried their best to aid the Deities who led the main defensive front against the enemy forces, but this was all in vain as they were loosing many of their forces and land. As the situation got worse and worse many of their citizens began to jump ship by traveling through Otherworld thanks to the help of their own Deities that also wanted to leave, however many of them were left behind to fend for themselves against the major threat. Once the conflict was over thanks to the Celestials, the Elves that remained on Earth were left disorganized after loosing most of their major territories in the war.   They set off to recover their land in order to fixup what was once their home but were surprise to find that much of their home territory has been claimed by their lesser advance brethren the humans. See what has happened during the Lost Age was that humanity either sided with foreign god or just opted to stay out of the major conflict as much as possible. As a result they were the race that took the least amount of damage from the war. They took the golden opportunity to expand into these lands and collected their weapons/grimoires to advance their own military might. Elves naturally didn't like the idea that their homes now belong to those that they once viewed to be their monkey relative and tried to reclaim their home.   At first negotiations were attempted hoping to appeal to their 'pathos' hoping they could convince them to give back their homeland, but the human race thought they had just as much claim since due to their shorter lifespan have spent generations on that land. Issues with humanity began to escalate even further when many of their kingdoms continue to expand all over the planet and into the lands owned by the other races. Elves alongside these other races banded together to suppress humanity rapid growth by attacking small kingdoms and villages to send a message to their rulers that they shouldn't act all mighty when confronted by superior races. However they didn't realize that remnants of humanity have made friends with the Celestials, which rained down fire on to their armies and toppling their militaries.   After this major defeat these groups lost even more of own territory and a chunk of their population. Elves had to adapt by staying reclusive in areas that had yet been explored by major human civilizations, or by becoming nomadic moving from place to place with no real home. Many now can be found across the Americas, the dense jungles of Africa, and small fragmented portions of western Europe in dense greenery areas where they try to maintain what remains of their once mighty culture. Others travel and hide in plane site among populated areas under Vigil supervision usually, though this isn't the case for all of them.

Alfheim

During the Lost Age many Elves and their respective Deities left the Earth and traveled into a new world that was as far away from the war as much as possible. This world was lush in green flora and wild life that resemble monsters created by the gods during the conflict, but they weren't as developed as they were. Given that they had vast experience on aether control and that they still had their Deities made it easy for them to colonize the world and become its dominant power.     The world later dubbed Alfheim after their patron Deity who died bringing them into this world. There they spent centuries reconstructing the planet to resemble their kingdoms on Earth, but was also designed to fit and match their new landscape. Once their new home was fully created they established separate territories that are ruled by Deity and an elf with high capabilities of magic while also being deemed as their people's champion.   Though there have been race occurrences where a few of them managed to travel back to Earth (though mostly due to accidents such falling through tears in space-time), many avoid going due to it being referred to as a 'no fly zone' by Celestials and as the wasteland of their former home. However, during the 1800's many Elves actually managed to travel from Earth to Alfheim after the debaucle with humanity that occurred during the gold rush.

Historical Figures

  • Alfheim, an integral Elvin Deity of nature that gave its own life for the Elvin race during the Lost Age and their move to realm of the elves.
  • Oberon, the current ruler of Alfheim who is also one of the longest living elves on the planet currently.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Elves actually got along pretty well with the Deities, given that these aether based beings are usually based on aspects of the natural order. For this reason they treat these beings high regards and respect with the exception normally being gods of conflict and destruction, due to them believing these concepts being things that negatively affects life. (Though may find this hypocritical given how they acted after the Lost Age with humanity)   Daemons are normally deemed too chaotic to really interact with safely given vast history for causing mischief across reality.   Celestials are also deemed to dangerous to cross ever since later days of the Lost Age where they showed how they battled the enemy and since they are closely affiliated with Humanity Elves prefer to stay as far away as possible.   Dragons are viewed to be mindless beast with no regard for their surroundings, largely due to how the first Dragon Kur and many western members of the species was widely known for their destructive power and reckless behavior.   Before the Lost Age Humanity was thought as to be their weaker cousins who needed help just survive during their earlier years of life, but after the war and humanity rose to become one the biggest powers on the planet the relationship between the two people began to strain. They began to resent humanity for how they've progressed so quickly when they were far superior and suffered great losses during the enemy assault that Humanity participated in. Then after being forced out of their homes by these insignificant lifeforms and witnessing how they ruin the lands they resided in, they grew to develop a dislike towards Humans that would carry on to many Elves that reside in isolated areas or are old enough to have experienced Humanity's wrath first hand. Though this isn't the case for all members of this species as those born in recent years or went to and interacted with the tribes of the America's, Africa and druid cultures of Europe have let their anger simmered down and appreciated the fact that not all humans were as destructive as their relatives in the East. Which in the long run helped establish Lookout with most of their members being Elves and Human alike. Though time will tell if relations will continue to improve or go downhill like before.
