Noctis

The Gluttonous Undead

Normally considered an undead form of creature normally made through artificial means and usually needs to feast on other life forms or aether based creatures. Most tend to be animalistic in nature though some are sentiment enough to speak. At the moment there is no hierarchy that organizes the group. Normally members of this race are vampires, ghouls, and zombies.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Normally created from existing corpses of any mortal race, so they can come in many forms.

Genetics and Reproduction

Being walking corpses they have lost the ability to reproduce the same as they use to, however they can pass on their biological curse to others via a blood transfusion.

Growth Rate & Stages

After receiving the curse their body begins to age and decay depending on how well fed they are. If well fed they look as old as they when they were turned, if they go certain time frame without their designated food they loose color, skin slowly peeling off, and their hunger becomes more apparent.

Ecology and Habitats

Normally they are extremely sensitive to bright light after resurrection and prefer to be out when it's dark, if they have been starved for weeks they come at the risk of being completely torn apart when in contact with daylight or if the curse has taken full effect on them.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They require to feed on the meat and life force (aether directly from the soul) of living creatures to prolong their existence, the process is much more potent and effective when taken from a sentient race like humans and elves.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They can mostly be found around parts of Latin America and through out central Europe.

Average Intelligence

When consumed by hunger most would lose all of their common to sate their appetite.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their sense of smell is greatly enhanced to improve their skills in hunting down their prey.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Noctis can kind of be considered parasitic when it comes how it interacts with other races, given that new Noctis are created through their corpses and feed on them to survive.

History

According to stories and lore past down by races such as the Elves during the Lost Age on Earth, many monstrosities were developed by Deities and powerful magi as a quick and easy way to create more troops at a much faster rate. At one point as they started to lose too many of their resources to create anything new and powerful creatures to annihilate the enemy forces and began to recycle existing corpses to stall for time by making aether clumps to hold the torn flesh together. When the conflict ended one magi in particular who witnessed these undead creatures began to observe how they functioned and tries to replicate the process in order to properly resurrect individuals. However he was only successful in giving temporary life or movement to a rotting corpse, one that die after a few hours and couldn't even speak proper sentences. His work though would be continued over the generations by disciples and other magi that discover his writings in an attempt to attain glory for essentially discovering immortality. After a few centuries one magi was successful in using a combination of healing and tethering to fix up the dead body and keep bits of it's soul bounded to its flesh so long the enchantment was placed on it sometime before death. Sadly this wasn't as effective s desired for they still had a relatively short lifespan, the enchantment doesn't seem to work as well on a older corpses, and they tended to become quite feral when on the brink of death.   Before he could begin on the next test he one of the subjects escaped confinement and proceed to kill him in a predatory state of mind. To its surprise though after consuming him it felt as though its life was restored, its body became stronger, and its mind sharper. The subject would then take the researcher's notes in order to become truly immortal. It began experimenting in creating more of its own kind, to the point where its very blood corrupted by the enchantment used to create it and can infect other creatures to turn them into something akin to it. As time went on it was able to practically create a new race born of the undead bodies of the world, but this also resulted in the dozens of feral nearly immortal creatures that butchered hundreds of other mortal creatures all for their own continuation. This wouldn't last long though for when the became too big to ignore, humanity with some minor aid from Celestials went after them with the intent of extermination. The crusade was successful in reducing the undead population to a small handful, it wouldn't remain like this for long due to only needing to infect with their curse to create new members. Not to mention since they're in a sense already dead and have their own healing factor, killing them only proved even more difficult. This becoming a silent war that would pop up every few hundred years whenever the Noctis race began rise in numbers. One of the most notable examples occurring around times of the black death epidemic. Rumors at the time state that the original subject at this point going by the name Layla eventually got tired of this cat and mouse game sailed to Americas to avoid the witch hunt long enough to continue her work in creating a perfect Noctis. Though she was able to evolve the biological curse to affect the very body to become the ultimate weapon, she was found and killed by unknown parties. Though some around the area claimed that around the time this likely occurred there was bright light that descended from the sky, leading to many debates going over whether this means the Celestial's got involved or not.   Years later the Noctis race began to go through a huge population boom in Europe after the huge wake of dead bodies left behind by the first world war. This was huge problem at the time since most of the general population aren't aware of this threat existence and were trying to cope from said war. The situation only got worst as the older Noctis that resided to Europe managed to convince a few other local races to side with them in order to usurp Humanity and bring the world back to time of old. Had Lookout not intervene with the aid from Elves and Dragons, Europe would have took a lot longer to fully recover and the paranormal would once again be common knowledge, but with a more negative light due to the Noctis actions. Nowadays this undead race currently hides in the shadows and underbellies of human society, waiting for the right moment to leap out and grow once more.
