Gladiator combat
One-to-one (and occasionally one-to-many) combats are a regular feature at arenas, with armed gladiators pitched against each other. Warriors may choose their own weapons; swords, spears, glaives, nets, and maces are all common.
Fighters are typically free, although occasionally convicted felons may be sentenced to gladatorial combat (generally against much stronger opponents).
Fights are typically to the death. Careers are therefore typically short - a couple of years at most. Successful gladiators may go on to work as hired fighters and bodyguards, and can command high fees.
Animals
In addition to combat between fighters, gladiators are often pitted against large and dangerous beasts.
Creatures such as
Rhakkor,
Basorra,
Redsnout,
Linsarr are typical. Larger beasts such as
Stonescales are occasionally seen.
Other entertainment
Violence is not the only attraction that draws crowds at the arena. Other entertainment may include dancers, acrobats, feats of strength, or magical spectacles;
Weavers are popular for their conjoured visual displays.
