Aederos Geographic Location in Helaeron | World Anvil

Aederos

One of the two known continents of the World of Helaeron. Aederos sprawls from North to South with titanic grandeur. With the most diverse terrain of the two continents. Many refer to Aederos as the Dawn Lands for its role as the central collection of locations that the history of the Elder Races takes place.
From its frozen north, to its burning south. Aederos is the land of Legends. It is where The Ellician Empire arose from humble beginnings to go on to unite the world under its banner.

History

In The First Aeon, all the lands of the world were one conjoined mass. But when The Strangers came to the world of Helaeron. Conflict with the Oraedar led to Yurion, the Oraedar of Creation, sundering the land into two great landmasses. With the open waters that lay between them ever afterwards being known as The Shattered Sea.
Aederos is the continent that the Oraedar held a claim to. Where in, their progeny races; Dragons, Elves, Dwarves, and Giants would reside and thrive through out the continent.
After the Oraedar had passed from the world. The Elder Races were suddenly left with the domains of their makers now entirely in their hands. Though the Anverai, or Custodian Spirits in service to the Oraedar, would guide, protect, and or preside over the lands. All the while watching for the threat in the east.
The Giants would spread through out Aederos. Forming small tribes. The Wood Elves say that where the Giants made their villages, the mountains rose from the dirt by way of reckless dancing. The validity of this claim has yet to be proven. Though it is proven that Giant tribes congregate at the peaks or at the bases of mountains. Most notably in the harsh northern lands of Bulgaard.
The Sun Elves would found many great City-State Kingdoms through out The Heartland and the South. The later collection of Kingdoms only ruling in the south for half a millennia. Until the Arrival of the Orcs from beyond the Great Southern Sea that would afterwards be named The Roaring Sea in reference to the Orcish Exodus. While the Night Elves would inhabit the The Great Deeps of Duordemar, the immense networks of tunnels, caverns, and chambers that lay beneath the surface of Aederos.
While the Wood Elves would begin their own civilization in the deep thickets of The Great Autumnwood Forest. So named for autumn state of the trees. Which are thus, because of the death of the Oraedar Vytol. Who lost the will to live because the Strangers had taken her last child from her.
War would constantly rage between the Sun and Night Elves over the differences of Belief, and Ideology. With the Wood Elves consistently being caught in the crossfire. Another Folk of Elves would come to dwell in what is now called The Annar Peninsula. But would eventually take to the sea. Supposedly becoming the Sea Elves, and later becoming the mythological contributors to the nature of the Annar Men who now live in the peninsula.
The Dwarves would keep to themselves in the Mountain Kingdoms they had carved out for themselves. Even forming smaller settlements called Thrangs. But would largely seclude themselves from the affairs of the Elves, Dragons, Giants, and Orcs. Concerning themselves more with their own civilization centered in The Dwarven Realm of Khar Durah that resided in Forgefire Mountain. Even completely isolating themselves from the surface in The Third Aeon. An event known as The Time of the Sealed Gates. Only reopening their civilization to the surface in The Fourth Aeon 331 A.E. When they believed it necessary to resume contact with the Surface.

Tourism

Tourism is largely concentrated in The Heartland. Since the Skaari Men of Bulgaard do not entirely welcome outsiders with the exception of traders. And in the South, The Ramian Empire had since declared war on all five kingdoms of the Heartland. Scarring their reputation with the rest of the world.
