Necobian

One sits down on a desert sand dune, sees nothing, hears nothing. Yet through the silence something throbs, and gleams. No stars gleam as brightly as those which glisten in the Sekhemti sky. A Necobian descends from the oldest house in the southern most region of Halruaal.  Due to the heat, the sun and the vast desert, Necobians have the darkest skin colour in Halruaal, darker than even the Heartlanders.  The culture of the Necobians is rule by stoicism and appreciation for the transitions of life - not to mention the undead who exist openly in society next to the living.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

When the early Necobians under House Kamose arrived in Halruaal, they formed a quick bond with the early settlers of House Udaku - now known as Heartlanders. The common language between the two was Osirisan - now seen as "Ancient Osirisan." Although Heartlanders have given up on Ancient Osirisan, a moderate minority of Necobians still practice the written format (with many of the older wizards speaking it directly).  At the same time Necobians also speak the common language of Halruaal, though they do so with some Dwarvish phrases and in more gravelly tone.

Culture and cultural heritage

adopting many of Heartlander traditions (or what could be argued as them adopting Necobian traditions), Necobians engage in ancestor worship.  Unlike Heartlanders, valued Necobian ancestors remain in the land of the living as undead.

Shared customary codes and values

similar to Heartlander culture, there is an emphasis practical individual growth. However, this is tempered by an almost overwhelming duty of commitment with family, community, and sovereign.  Even in death, the commitment is honored.  Therefore, rebellion against the status quo, the church, or the Pharaoh is unheard of.  Yet in turn the duty extends from the bottom down.  A sovereign is to protect and defend the community, which cherishes and guards the individual.

Average technological level

Although not as technologically advanced as Keildeners under House Blackharbour and Northerners under Hanover, Heartlanders hold the most powerful magics in Halruaal - controlling the bounds of life and death itself. The very first wizards who ever walked the land are said to exist to this day, in the deepest council chambers of the Necropolis having over the two millennia to hone their craft.

Common Etiquette rules

Necobians follow a more stoic and honorific society.  Formality is heavily stressed in a way that even those of Clan Oni might admire.

Common Dress code

Due to the extreme weather in the south, Necobians cover themselves extensively in reflective and moisture wicking clothing.  A focus on lighter colours, such as yellows and whites dominate the purview of fashion.  The temperature hardly ever changes in the south, only a person's resistance to it.  Only a fool would come to the Sekhemti and not expect, or wait, an adapting period to the

Art & Architecture

Everything building of Necobian design is made from a combination of sandstone and (since it's discovery by House Aetius) Wardstone.  Building downward into the ground is a must to escape the burning heat.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Wise and ancient beyond belief, the Necobian undead are honored paragons and advise and protect their living descendants. Most retain their intelligent as ghouls, mummies, and revenants. The strongest of these is the one protector of the necropolis, the Mummy Lord of Alphleatay.

Funerary and Memorial customs

A funeral is the most important rite of the Necobian society.  they are week long activities (ranging from celebrations to mourning).  At the end, depending on the contributions an individual made to society, or of their social status, they are raised in a manner befitting their stature.  This is a curtesy only extended to Necobians though.  While burial rites can be performed on other citizens of Halruaal, raising an undead is strictly regulated to blood Necobians.

Common Taboos

Desecration of the dead or rebellion against the community.

Common Myths and Legends

A great blue Dragon exist somewhere in the Sekhemti, rumor has it it formed a pact with Archon (now god) Alphleatay, and exists as a great undead dracolich.

Historical figures

The most important figure in Necobian Society is the Archon and now Deity, Alphleatay. He is known as the greatest Arch-wizard in the Sekhemti and was a powerful undead before even ascending to godhood.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

In the harsh winds of the desert have fashioned a unique and practical form of beauty.  The sand suffers no fools and athleticism, humility, and respect for danger.  Animals are highly revered and many Necobian wizards wear elaborate animal masks with Anthropomorphic features.

Gender Ideals

Necobian society primarily follows the Deity Alphleatay, the androgynous deity of death, transitions, and undead.  As such, there's a focus towards an equal blend of the masculine and feminine.

Courtship Ideals

Marriages and relationships are a heavily regulated affair for Necobians.  Pairings are arraigned due to business ties, social placement, and ancestral lineage.  As such Matchmakers are a big part of the culture and are a prestigious profession.  There are many elaborate rules and negotiations that go into binding two people together.  And although, personal input is still gathered from those set to be matches, the emphasis isn't given to personal opinion.

Relationship Ideals

unlike Heartlanders, relationships are usually strictly monogamous.  Each pairing are recognized by society to uphold one another and the community as a whole. Relationships and pairings can exist between individuals of differing sex or of the same sex, so long as it helps further the ideals of duty to the State.

Major organizations

House Kamose controls the Necobian lands and patrol it through the use of the Silent.  Still there are rumors of an even more shadowy guild who work in the background for the collective good.
