Gelderland
Gelderland lies within the southern part of The Palatinate with Mehrklav to its north, the Free Cities to the east, and Pheria to the west. The Gelders were a human tribe that made their way north, doing battle with the many peoples who already took residence east of the Emerald Run. The Gelders fought and defeated many elves, hill giants, ogres, and halflings; either subjugating them, or causing them to flee outwards. Things have definitely smoothed over between humans, elves, and halflings within Gelderland as time has moved on, but the scars of the past have not gone away. The Gelders pride themselves as a warrior people, and many of them find themselves on the frontlines in Imperial armies due to their ferocity. Gelderland has a fierce rivalry with the Kingdom of Pheria. The two realms often find themselves in border skirmishes over the Emerald Run. The emperor or empress does their best to put those clashes to heal, but sometimes it is of little to no effect. Gelderland also has a testy history with the Free Cities because of a Gelder warlord named Algar who in days past carved a bloody swath from Askium to Serus. The one advantage Gelderland does have is its ties to the Kingdom of Mehrklav which have been solidified over the years through intermarrying between the two families.
