Prince or Princess of Crathlia
This title is held by the less-powerful children of the current and past kings and queens, as well as the children of the Hereditary Crown Prince or Princess and the Chosen Crown Prince or Princess until they take the throne. The title itself holds no power or land and is merely a courtesy title for the royals who are equal in descent to their sibling, the future king or queen.
Historically, royal siblings fought one another or participated in contests to determine who would be the crown prince or princess. However, since the 1200s, succession of noble titles has been based in power level, so when the youngest royal sibling is ten years old, the heir is decided. During the heir's succession to the throne, the eligible princes and princesses are offered the opporitunity to duel their sibling to the death for the throne. Such a duel has not taken place in hundreds of years, but if it were to happen it would remain legally binding.
Requirements
Princes and princesses are members of the Alderley Clan, direct descendants of the first king of Crathlia, King Matthew Alderley the Great. Specifically, they are the children of kings and queens. Children of hereditary crown princes and princesses get this title because their parents will one day be the king and queen; they lose their title if their royal parent passes away before assention to the throne.
