Lasam

Dalran: Lasama
Lasama (dalríska)

Lasam is a kingdom up in the southern Narannax Mountains in central Emlas, bordered by Imkala to the south and Dalra to the east.
It's often referred to as the Red Kingdom, due to the native Lasmans's preference for red clothing, rugs and tapestries, made of the mohair of domesticated goats or -more recently- the hairs of Woolly Donkeys introduced from Dalra. Lasmans trade such cloth, along with silver, precious- and semi-precious stones for cotton cloth, spices and other goods from the lowlands.

History

Lasam's history extends back several centuries, when a tribe from the cloud forest migrated to the Narannax Mountains and unified many of the small kingdoms and tribes in the southern part of the there by force. Since then, it has thwarted invasions both from imkalan city-states, tribal confederations from other parts of mountains and brief dalran attacks following the latter's conquest of the Kirúkans near the southwestern border.
Due to these recent attacks, Lasam is now sympathetic to the imkalans in their battles against dalrans1, and has sent resources and even a few troops to aid their city-states.

Structure

Government

Lasam is ruled by Únn Rótó II, whose court is located in the capital of Kmoslaxa by Nasme Lake, on the edge of the southern cloud forests and alpine pastures to the north. His influence is strongest around the lake and among the semi-nomadic tribes who make camp there in the winter, while the fully nomadic ones further in the mountains barely recognize Lasam's authority, and often clash with lasman warriors as a results.
Although it has nearly fully adopted native customs and traditions, the royal family originally came from northern Imkala, which is reflected by the kings tracing their lineage to the union of two legendary beings, namely a culture hero from the southern cloud forest and a winged woman who lived in a cave up in Mt. Ekósom, the highest mountain in the world.

Provinces

Lasam is divided into a few provinces, either named after their provincial capital or the most prominent tribe living there. Notable towns include Ilril and Vesa by Lasme Lake, and Kmenn upon Sitiró River.
