Lasmans

Lasmic: Irílasmat
Dalran: Lasamere
Imkalan: Taradarra
Samlan: Golonn
Lasmans1 are the people inhabiting the kingdom of Lasam in the southern Narannax Mountains in central Emlas, most of whom are native to the mountains but are ruled by a dynasty hailing from Imkala to the south.
They are renowned for producing fine red textiles, and fashioning intricate jewelry and other ornaments out of silver, precious- and semi-precious stones.

Culture

Apparel

Lasman clothing resembles that of the Dalrans, consisting of long tunics, cloaks and goatskin shoes, though they are mostly woven from the mohair of domesticated goats rather than the hairs of Woolly Donkeys and are invariably dyed in various shades of red. Wealthy lasmans in particular traditionally wear a kind of turban as well, often embroidered with silver thread.
Long hair is the norm, women usually braid it while the men wear more elaborate hairstyles that imitate horns during festivals.

Architecture

Lasman architecture varies significantly between provinces, with the capital of Kmoslaxa being the only major settlement where most buildings are made of timber, while elsewhere most buildings are made of stone and sport roofs thatched with heather, though natural and man-made caves are also used to the north. Silver is used to adorn important buildings, especially the royal palace, where the roof, doors and window-frames are all covered in the metal, which the lasmans consider more precious than gold.

Textiles

Rugs and tapestries are an important part of lasman culture, with different styles being associated with certain regions, settlements and tribes, but all make use of different shades of red and, to lesser extent, silver thread. The finest tapestries show detailed scenes from mythology, cosmology and epic poetry, and are large enough to cover an entire outside wall of a temple.

Language

A number of languages are used in everyday life among common lasmans, particularly those living in smaller settlements, while in Kmoslaxa and major towns, a language known as omp is used, particularly by the aristocracy and warriors, which is related to imkalan tongue.
Omp is written using two distinct scripts, one that is characterized by blocky letters made entirely with straight lines, making it easier to inscribe on stone, wood or bone, while the other has more elongated, curvier letters, and is intended to be embroidered or painted on cloth.

Religion

At home, lasmans worship a mixed pantheon of deities and spirits from various local religions on one hand, and imkalan gods and goddesses on the other, but most public religious ceremonies revolve around the veneration of Lasam's rulers and their predecessors in general. Ritual dances are an important part of these ceremonies.

Funeral practices

Funerary rites among lasmans differ depending on one's status in life, with commoners being laid to rest in cairns at the bottom of certain canyons -most notably Nann Canyon near Kmoslaxa-, while members of the aristocracy are laid in small tombs or natural alcoves up in the cliff walls, which are then sealed with clay.
