Gwythshire
Gwythshire (gwith·shire or gwith·sher) is a province of the Kingdom of Gararden and is part of the Hearthlands region.
Gwythshire has the dubious honour of being the agricultural powerhouse of the kingdom. It has three major rivers flowing through its territory and its governors have heavily invested in one of the largest irrigation systems in the world. It stores vast reserves of grain and sells its surplus to the provinces of the Hearthlands and the Northern Reaches. Because of this Gwythshire is sometimes called the Breadbasket.
Its central position and strategic importance means that it has the largest garrison of the Royal Army outside of Ereshold.
It's current governor is the venerable Preston Galwick, a well respected man who actually used to be a common farmer.
In 357 NK (15 years before the birth of King Rael to put it in perspective) the previous governor of Gwythshire, Saros Amethyn, hosted a gigantic banquet on Chauntea's feast day, attended by the previous Queen and the Hearthland governors. Unbeknownst to Saros the Queen loathed him and throwing a gigantic feast in his own honour (under the guise of Chauntea's feast day, no less) left her looking for any excuse to be rid of him.
In the middle of a speech, supposedly intended praise the Queen, Saros famously bragged that Gwythshire was so easy to run "a commoner could do it".
"Is that so?" the Queen replied as she rose to her feet and announced that the man then known as "Preston of Galwick", who was present as an honoured representative of the common folk, was the new governor.
