Ammdel

Ammdel (amm·del) is a province of the Kingdom of Gararden and is part of the Northern Reaches region. It was captured by Garaden in 120 NK as part of its expansion north of the Hearthlands.
Though one of the physically largest provinces much of its land is taken up by the Palia Mountains and their foothills, making the land unsuitable for traditional farming without a sizeable investment in terraforming - an investment that has never been made. Therefore the province's primary economic activities include mining and quarrying the mountain and raising herd animals for their leather (and byproducts). There has been, for the longest time, the notion that Ammdel would be able to capitalise on its monopoly on the northern trade route but trade to the north has never picked up.
The common perception of Ammdelian folk casts them as honest, rustic and hardworking - art and craft from Ammdel is quite unlike any other province, creating using leather, textiles and stone. On the other hand the governing family of Ammdel, the Clink family, have a reputation amongst the higher echelons of society for being surly, bitter and combative.
The current governor, Zavus Clink, is actually the most recent governor to receive a punishment from King Rael. In 418 NK the Stonemason's Guild chapter in Ammdel informed that king that their members hadn't been paid by the Clink for months and that their attempts to stop work in protest had been violently disrupted by the governor's guards. Zavus was immediately arrested by the King's army and a large portion of land was transferred from Ammdel to Deiradel - some of the only land in Ammdel suitable for farming. Zavus was freed a few weeks later after forming some kind of arrangement with the King.
