King Rael Asterkin Ort-Garard

The reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Gararden⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣, Rael's reign is currently viewed as distinctly non-controversial - which is a refreshing change compared to several of the previous rulers.
Assuming the throne in 393 NK he immediately married Sophita Vont⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ - an uncontroversial choice which strengthened the loyalty of the Vont dynasty without upsetting too many others. Queen Sophita seemed to compliment her husband perfectly and their marriage appeared to be happy and respectful.
King Rael's publicly spoken plan for Gararden is "stability and prosperity", which he has achieved primarily by behaving as he should: plying the governors with wealth and power, making sure to deliver swift punishment to those who step out of line and continuing to improve relations with Gararden's neighbours.

Sophita's Death

While Sophita had always been plagued by poor health but in 407 NK her health took a turn for the worst.
The best efforts of the finest clerics and wizards initially worked but her health always deteriorated afterwards. Over time the distance between a healing and her decline fell from months, to weeks, to days and (by the end) to hours.
On the 17^th of Highfrost 412 NK Queen Sophita died in her sleep. Despite repeated offers Rael continuously refuses to resurrect her, certain that she would immediately wither again.
