Deiradel

Deiradel (dei·ra·del or deir·a·del) is a province of the Kingdom of Gararden and is part of the Northern Reaches region.
Deiradel's primary claim to fame is its control over the north-eastern over land trade route, a minor but lucrative trade route that keeps the inhabitants of the province comfortable.

Governor

Altonis Rewa-Vont is the province's current governor but he didn't expect to be.
Born into the minor Rewa family, Altonis' marriage to Heifer - the second child of the governing Vont family - was thought to be a minor blip in the political landscape of Gararden. Altonis was trained as a monster hunter and was expected to spend most of his time away from home. Heifer spent most of her time on artistic pursuits. It was said that they were happy with the arrangement but they never had any children.
When Heifer's older sister Sophita was unexpectedly wed to King Rael, Heifer was suddenly the heir apparent for the governorship. When the governor - Heifer's mother - unexpectedly passed away in her sleep, Heifer was unceremoniously dropped into the position with little preparation. Altonis, similarly unready, tried his best to help her get up to speed. The first few years of Heifer's reign were tumultuous and plagued with poor (yet not disastrous) decisions but over time Heifer became a confident and savvy ruler.
When Sophita waned and died in 412 DR, Heifer's health began to fail her as well. Whether this was the same affliction as her sister's or the effects of a deep malignant melancholy remain unknown. Heifer began to visibly weaken and withdrew from public life. By 417 DR she rarely made appearances and eventually took her own life. Altonis was away on an expedition at the time.
It is not uncommon for a governor's spouse to take their position in the event of their death. King Rael (who had become close friends with Heifer and Altonis after Sophita's death) asked Altonis to stay on and continue with his wife's vision. It took several weeks of cajoling but Altonis finally accepted the appointemnt.
Altonis' governorship is controversial. While his initial year was objectively better than his wife's it's generally agreed that he will never measure up to Heifer's standard. Altonis has received criticism for reacting to issues too rashly and too slowly.
