Grimsey

A land of transition, Grimsey lies between the cool green grasslands of Harhan’s Respite and the frigid embrace of the Reothedge Taiga. Here, the battle between life and cold plays out with every passing season. Rolling tundra stretches across the land, dotted with sparse conifers and frozen lakes, while the northern reaches give way to the dense forests of the taiga, where shadows stretch long in the endless twilight of winter.   Once a peaceful buffer between the Yergralffe and the Ice Dwarves, Grimsey became a battleground during the Third Northern War, its fields scarred by old battle lines. Even now, old weapons and shattered armour can be found buried in the permafrost, relics of a war that neither side truly won. The Frelheid were exiled from the south when they lost a war against the Yergralffe. Their settlements became home to Yergs and Ice Dwarves who formed fishing and hunting communities that rely on the Adrarctic Lions and Snow Hares that roam the taiga.   The city of Bardur stands as the region’s main trade hub, its markets filled with furs, smoked meats, and rare herbs gathered from the deep forests. Further north, Saldalmoen serves as a frontier outpost, its wooden palisades barely holding against the raiders who lurk in the shadows of the trees. The province’s remoteness makes it vulnerable—rogue Yergralffe warbands still hide in the taiga, striking at isolated dwarven caravans before disappearing into the snow.   But Grimsey’s greatest prize is its border with Harhan’s Respite, a lush valley warmed by underground hot springs. Solladir, a town built upon these healing waters, has become a refuge for warriors and traders alike, its pools offering warmth in a land where cold seeps into the bones. Yet the valley remains a prize sought by many—the dwarves claim it as their own, but whispers tell of northern warlords seeking to exploit its resources, willing to stir old tensions to claim it for themselves.
