Oriclan - Harfjörd
Once known as Harfjörd, the land of Oriclan was originally the homeland of the Yergralffe, a people who ruled the icy expanse for generations. However, centuries ago, the relentless advance of the Arctic Dwarves changed the fate of this land. Five Northern Wars took place as both people claimed the rehion as their ancestral homeland, it was clear that these lands were thr richest in minerals as well as the clearest waterways to fish and trade. The five kings and queens of the mainland forsook their northern brethrten to appease the dwarves and their vast wealth. Since then the Yergralffe have held a grudge against their immediate enemies of the Ice Dwarves as well as the royalty of the southern continent.
That decision was made only after many lives had been lost in the brutal series of conflicts known as the Five Northern Wars, fought between the remaining Yergralffe and the newly entrenched Ice Dwarves. Ultimately, the Highking of the mainland sided with the dwarves, valuing the trade ties with their powerful clans over the dwindling influence of the House of Verki, the last stronghold of the Yergralffe.
Now, Oriclan stands as an unyielding fortress of dwarven might, ruled by Jarl Chief Orich Frigidbeard, a ruthless and cunning warlord whose word is absolute law. His rule is upheld by his Hold Thanes, who govern the provinces of this frozen realm with an iron grip.
Geography and Climate
Oriclan is an unforgiving land of ice and stone, where blizzards sweep across the tundra and frost clings to the mountains year-round. The northern reaches are a brutal wasteland of towering glaciers, treacherous ice caves, and frozen seas, where only the hardiest creatures and travelers survive. However, the land is not wholly barren—its depths conceal vast riches, with mines filled with precious gems, veins of froststeel, and reservoirs of rare minerals.
To the south, Harhan’s Respite offers a stark contrast. A lush valley warmed by geothermal springs, it is home to fertile forests, winding rivers, and fishing communities that thrive along its banks. However, this paradise is fiercely contested, its resources coveted by those who wish to exploit them. Beyond this, the Reothedge Taiga serves as the final transition before the unrelenting cold takes hold once more, its dense coniferous forests sheltering both hunters and raiders alike.
Provinces of Oriclan
Berg - The Bastion of Wat
Overlooking the Trench of Harhan, Berg is the most contested province in Oriclan, the ancestral land of the Yergralffe and the heart of the centuries-old conflict between the two peoples. Despite the dominance of the Ice Dwarves, remnants of the House of Verki still resist, their warriors launching daring raids in hopes of reclaiming their homeland. Fortifications dot the snow-covered cliffs, and warbands roam the land, ever vigilant for the next skirmish. Here, survival is a test of both steel and endurance.
Grimsey - The Taiga of Warbands
Where the frigid plains meet the last vestiges of greenery, Grimsey serves as the crossroads of Oriclan, a land of dense forests and harsh winters. Tribes of hunters, mercenaries, and raiders stalk the snow-laden woods, their loyalty shifting with the promise of coin or conquest. The province also acts as the first line of defense against incursions from the colder lands, its warriors hardened by a lifetime of border skirmishes and relentless winters.
Harpa - The Frozen Coast
The easternmost province, Harpa, is a land of desolation, its jagged coastline battered by the icy waves of the Bay of Scripture. Fishing villages cling to the frozen shores, their people carving out a meager existence from the sea. Yet, despite its remoteness, Harpa is vital to Oriclan’s survival, providing food and maritime access to trade routes beyond the frozen wastes. The province is ruled by Hold Thane Dren Hardwinter, a steadfast and brutal leader whose clan has long served as guardians of this harsh frontier.
The People of Oriclan
The inhabitants of Oriclan are as unyielding as the land they call home. The Ice Dwarves, short in stature but powerful in build, have mastered the art of survival in the freezing cold, their fortresses and cities built deep into the mountains where warmth and industry thrive. Fishing villages, mining outposts, and warring clans make up the rest of the population, their lives dictated by the ever-present threat of both nature and war.
Despite their division into feuding clans, all Ice Dwarves swear loyalty to Jarl Chief Orich Frigidbeard, who rules from the fortress-city of Orburg, formally Harkjavik. A marvel of dwarven engineering added to the historcal iceberg fortress of Bërg Verkil. Orburg’s massive walls and subterranean halls serve as an impenetrable bastion against any who would challenge the Jarl Chief’s dominion.
Flora and Fauna
Life in Oriclan is sparse but resilient. Among its inhabitants are:
Adrarctic Cattle – Bred for their thick fur and resistance to the cold, these creatures provide both sustenance and warmth.
Glacierback Walrus – Their massive, ice-encrusted bodies roam the frozen shores, hunted for their meat and blubber.
Polar Bears & Snow Hares – Predators and prey alike thrive in the endless winter, their coats blending with the snow.
Shard Serpents – Rare and deadly, these frost-covered creatures lurk in the depths of Oriclan’s caves.
Tundra Poppies – A fragile yet powerful bloom, sought after for its medicinal properties.
Oriclan’s Future
Oriclan is a land of unyielding rule, where only the strongest endure. Under Jarl Chief Orich Frigidbeard, the Ice Dwarves have cemented their dominion, but challenges remain. The House of Verki still plots in the shadows, and foreign powers eye Oriclan’s wealth with growing interest. With the Hold Thanes keeping the provinces in check and warriors ever ready for the next war, Oriclan’s legacy is one of strength, survival, and the relentless march of dwarven conquest.
Capital was Harkjavik, home of the Silverstaff family during the black fog
The kingdom is also home to some of the hardiest and strongest animals in the realm, with muskoxen and reindeer herds that provide sustenance and transportation.
