Before the session there was a large chunk of downtime (132 days to be exact), during which various party members had some undertakings too, here is a summary of what's relevant:
- The party bought some magic items from a vendor in the black market that had some come in.
- Jade spent a lot of her time making spell scrolls to sell.
- Irial took on some protection agreements on new small businessess and helped out the businessess too.
- Fièn and Jade together managed to lift the debt from the weaver by paying it off and using information to get the Yakovna's attention
- Orlon having been captured is tortured, eventually however through magic the party found Lady is actually Marina, Orlon's long lost first child. Out of mercy of that Lady allows Orlon to leave the city with his family instead of killing him.
- Fien opens up a gambling house which is quite succesfull, its called the Gambling Fox.
- Flynransimply seems to not do a lot instead making friends all over the orginisation.
- Matt simply tries to manage to orginisation as best as possible.
- Irial and Matt expand the security a lot further.
The session pick up again on the 32nd of Griffus.
At the start of the session the party is invtied to a Autumn ball in the
Ethain's manor house.
The party is invited under the guise of Fien's legal businesses but in reality the invitation is to meet with the leaders of the
Smugglers so the 5 families can talk to them.
The party decides to talk and plan on what to do at the gala and think about who might be there are the Gala, like
Vena and how to handle him.
They also question the loyalty of Lady towards Vena or the Smugglers.
The party also quickly talk with
Flynran and ask him about why he's been interacting and gathering loyalty across the org, it doesn't really turn into anything but a warning for now
After that little meeting Matt talks with
Breaknight the thug he hired, he appears out of the darkness and talks to Matt informing him they should be rougher on the
Red revelers for invading their territory the little bits they have so far.
In preparation of the ball Fien takes an unwilling Lady clothes shopping.
Irial sees a little creature again, tries to capture it but fails.
The party went to the gala on the 37th. There they first interact a bit.
At the party various important nobles from bersail and beyond are there as well as important people from all the gangs of the city. Addtionaly there are also witchhunters at the party, throughout the crowds and in the gardens surrounding the manor.
Rendel of Auchburg a man with some form of connection to Matt is there too, Flynran meets him while mingling but doesn't give matt up who Rendal asks for because he thought he saw somebody that might be matt come in with Flynran.
It is not known yet why Rendel is looking for Matt.
Vena once its dark goes outside to look at Bersail in the distance during which Lady follows him and has a conversation with him real quick.
Eventually the party is invited by
Lana Yakovna to meet with her as a representative of
the 5 families.
There She makes clear that the party will now be treated as a gang on par with the others and that while on paper they're criminals, in reality as long as nothing is discovered that the 5 families are willing to give loans in return for partial profits on of course legal businessess, though if some of that money gets lost, that nothing can be done.
Beyond that she also makes clear that if anything funny is ever tried that then the 5 families can economically choke out any gang they want.
As the conversation concludes and the party is about to go downstairs again a commotion keeps them on their room, looking from the inside balcony they see
captain Fikri a withchhunter captain give a speech while various nobles among the crowd have been captured by witchhunters.
Fikri declares that with approval of the faith that the witchhunters are taking Bersail temporarily under full control, to root out heresy in places they are unable to reach without full authority, like the noble houses themselves.
Because of this and because Lana would be captured, she asks the party to escort her out of the manor to safety so she can leave to a different city for sanctuary. In addition to this she asks to get rid of the witchhunters out of her city. The party accepts this and manages to get her out through the servant stables where after just escaping the witchhunters by outrunning them they take horses and leave. Irial and Matt were with Lana while the rest of the party lagged behind a bit and instead had to take out some witchhunters before also being able to leave on horseback (or pony in case of Flynran)
