Desert
Geography
Desert is one of the three major parts of the Continent of Å+*4~. It lies on the west of the continent, next to Å+*4~ and north of Wasteland of Å+*4~. It is surrounded by Ocean on the west, and Cliffs in the north. As the name suggests, this whole area is mostly a desert, with several oases scattered throughout it. These are the main places where nature thrives, and here is where you’ll find most cities - though overwhelming majority of them is located underground.
Climate
Climate of Desert is unforgivingly hot. The main sun here is the orange sun, the hottest one in this part of the world. Because of this, Desert is also incredibly dry. It gets some rain during the rainy seasons, but not enough for any significant life to survive here.
The hottest and the driest parts are in the center of the area, and its biggest desert (not that anything here isn’t a desert) spans all the way from Cliffs to Wasteland.
Regions near Å+*4~ are a bit better and the more populated ones. They lie next to Long River, which is the main water source here. Similarly, the regions next to Ocean seem to get more rain as well, but not many people live there.
Plants & Animals
Considering this is a desert, you won’t find a lot of plant and animal life. In most of the area you won’t find much more than scorpions and sand snakes, but the most remote and hottest part of Desert is rumored to contain a strange creature named The Stomach. This is supposedly a type of a giant snake or a worm that will eat anything in its path. Which is mostly sand, but still.
Nature is a bit kinder around the oases that are scattered all throughout Desert. Here you’ll find water full of fishes, palm trees and many critters hiding in the grass and bushes surrounding the area. Here is also where you will see cattle that belongs to people living nearby.
Towns
When you come to Desert, you might notice that it seems completely empty. You might even think that no one is living here at all. But you couldn’t be more wrong. Desert is full of people and living in cities that can grow quite big- except they’re all underground. The harsh hot and dry climate doesn’t seem very people-friendly, but underground things seem a lot better.
These underground cities are considered to be some of the oldest ones in our world. These are the cities people built to retreat to in the apocalyptic times, and after many left to find a better life on the surface after the apocalypse, many have stayed here.
These underground cities are most easily found near Å+*4~ and Long River, and near the oases that can be found in many places across Desert. Some of them are pretty small, but some of them span wide and deep further than you might imagine is possible.
People
Most of the population here consists of mole people, while fairies are rare. Of course, fairies prefer nature and sunlight, and refuse to live in these underground cities. But there is another subspecies of moles that does quite enjoy these dark underground caves: bat people. They too are rather rare and prefer to keep to themselves. They live in their own towns, but many have moved aways, some even as far as Fairy Gardens.
People here are thought to be a little bit strange to the rest of the world, but they really aren’t too different. They live in families similar to the ones in Å+*4~, but they seem more serious and tend to keep to themselves. They aren’t seen as open and social as people in many other parts of the world, but who could blame them? It’s not like you can go out to spend the day out at the park or at the beach if you live underground. Instead they work hard on their hobbies and crafts, and stay at home rather than go out. However, they do love to have fun here just like anyone else. Underground cities are full of bars, arcades, movie theaters, shops and more. Though the desert is hot and dry, these cities are located near the oases, where people like to come and have fun in the sun. They tend to come out in the evenings when the air gets colder, but not too cold as it tends to get in the night.
Resources
Again, if you thought that Desert is mainly just an empty barren space, you’d be wayy wrong. There might not be many plants and animals here, but this land is still full of useful resources - as long as you know how and where to find them.
Though Desert doesn’t seem like it has much to offer, it has more than enough sand. This sand is used to make desert glass, the best quality glass of our world. Glass makers of this area are particularly proud of their word, and Desert produces the majority of glass in our world.
But glass isn’t the only precious resource produced in Desert. Desert is also known to have large salt plains where people produce salt, Cliffs are a perfect place for quarries that produce some of the best stone in our world, and cities deep beneath the surface are full of gemstones.
Though Desert might not seem very agriculture-friendly, people here do surprisingly well in that area as well. One of the plants that thrives in these arid regions are the cacti that can be used in the production of cactus leather, and many people living near Long River and numerous oases own milk producing cattle. You’d be surprised but “real” milk isn’t supper common in our world and besides Fairy Gardens, Desert is the only place where you can get it.
Desert also takes advantage of it's intersting tourist spots, such as the ancient Pyramids and the Cliffs. Many people visit the area to see the sights, some like to wanter the pyramids for spiritual purposes, and the more adventurous ones can climb the Cliffs.
