Cliffs of Å+*4~
Geography
Cliffs lie at the very north east of the map, right between Desert and Ocean. Technically Cliffs are considered to be part of Desert, but many consider them to be their own thing. The large, imposing rock formation seems to be a bit out of place there and is otherwise very different from the desert itself. It’s also completely uninhabited by moles or any other humanoid species, so it’s sort of a “no man’s land”.
There is a very good reason why this place seems so weird and out of place as the story of its creation is quite an interesting one and one the most well known stories that isn’t only told here, but all across the world. This is a story of How desert cliffs came to be.
Nature
There are no people living here, and there isn’t much other life here either. You may run across a random scraggly shrub or a mossy area, maybe even a rogue scorpion or a snake, but as far as plant and animal life goes, that’s pretty much it. However, one of the peculiar animals living here are paper birds. You may have seen them delivering messages in other parts of the world, but these ones living here are wild ones, and tend to be pretty teritorial and aggressive so watch out.
Climate here is similar to Desert itself, though it tends to get less hot in the higher altitudes. It does rain occasionally, but these tall rocks are preventing much of that rain from making it to the Desert.
Nevertheless, the area remains one of the hottest ones due to the sunlight of the orange sun - the hottest one of the world.
Towns, People & Resources
There isn’t anyone living on the Cliffs, but several settlements can be found near them, and even carved into the rocks. Much like the rest of the Desert, many of these settlements focus on salt, glass and cactus leather production, but Cliffs in particular are the best location for quarries and stone cutting settlements. Stone acquired here is exported all across the world and can be used for many purposes, from construction to decoration.
Cliffs also provide one of the main water sources in this area. On top of the cliffs there is a spring that is the source of the Long River that represents the border between Desert and Ä+*4~. This river starts about 100km into the Cliffs, and forms the biggest waterfall in the world that is one of the most famous tourist attractions. From there, the river runs across Desert, providing it with a much needed water source and bringing some life into otherwise dead and barren land. It runs all the way to Ä+*4~, where is splits into two parts: one continuing on through Ä+*4~ all the way to Fairy Gardens Gardens, and the other one making its way south between Ä+*4~ and Wasteland, eventually pouring into the Ocean. Cliff Spring bottled water is also a popular refreshment od Desert.
Tourism
Despite seeming like qute an unevenful place, Cliffs actually do attract tourists for many reasons.
- One thing that can be enjoyed by all is just coming here to see the Cliffs and listen to the story of it's creation. Though the stone produced here is nothing extremely special and can be commonly found in varios stone products all across the world, many are willing to pay good money for a piece of cliff stone. Many also come to see the Cliff Waterfall.
- For more sporty and adventurous people, Cliffs are one of the best and most popular spots in the world for rock climbing. Amateurs and professionals alike flock here to try out and learn rock climbing, or praticipate in various contests for everyone. If you're insane enough, you can also attempt to ride down the Waterfall in a barrel, but please do make sure you have some extra lives available. The insurance company below the Waterfall makes tons of money from people buying extra lives just to attempt the barrel plunge.
- If you aren't the most sporty type but would like to see the top of the cliffs anyway, there are other ways to make it up there. You can climb the stairs carved into the rock, or simply be taken up by the elevator. When you're up there you can visit the river spring, top of the Waterfall, or even End of the World.
End of The World
As famous as the waterfall is, it’s not even the most famous location here. This would be “End of the World” that is located on the far northeast end of the Cliffs. There isn’t very much to find here, End of the World is only marked with a sign proclaiming that this is, in fact, end of the world. Though it may seem unremarkable, this spot is wrapped in mystery and is subject to many speculations of what may or may not be possible to happen there. One of the greatest mysteries of this place is surely the one of what might happen if you were to jump from the end of the world.
