End of the World
Location
End of the World is a landmark located at the very far north east of Å+*4~~, on top of the Cliffs of Å+*4~. It is marked by nothing more than a simple sign that reads “End of the World” at the edge of the cliff. Being so far and up on a cliff, it’s hardly accessible, but people have built an elevator and carved stairs into the stone to make it easier to reach this point.
What is it?
Well, it’s pretty straightforward, End of the World is what is says on the sign - the end of the world. In a way at least. It is one spot on the map where the main landmass of the world ends, but you pick any spot along the border of this landmass and mark it as the end of the world. Furthermore, while it is the end of the main landmass, this is in no way the end of the world as a whole. There is the ocean and outer islands - some more explored than the others, but they’re all there.
So what is it that makes this particular spot so special and marked as THE “end of the world”? While at first glance it doesn’t seem very special, many visitors have experienced strange occurrences here. From malfunctioning electronics to paranormal sightings, it’s no doubt something strange is happening here.
Strange happenings
Malfunctioning electronics
The first thing people coming here will notice is the already mentioned malfunctioning of their electronic devices. In our modern world you’d hardly find anyone who doesn’t own, and carry on them, their smartphone. In relation to this you’ll also very hardly find a spot in the world with no reception. Except End of the World. The closer to it you get the weaker the signal gets, and when you are at the very spot of End of the World you’ll be left with no phone reception whatsoever, unreachable to your friends who might be looking for you. Besides this, you may notice other odd behaviors of your devices, such as quick emptying or the battery, shutting off, freezing up, lagging and some rather peculiar results in case you want to take photos, videos or sound recordings in that area. But more on that later.
Malfunctioning physics
Next thing people may notice here and may be even more concerning is the seeming malfunctioning of laws of physics in general. You may not realize it while there, but don’t be surprised when after your ten minute visit to the spot, your friend who stayed back claims you’ve been gone for hours. Or, the opposite could happen just as well - you could be here for hours only to find that no more than a few minutes have passed while you were gone. Time slowing down, speeding up or standing still are some things you are sure to experience here, but there is no reliable way to know which of these may happen to you.
Not only time, but gravity as well doesn’t seem to be what it is in the rest of the world. People haven’t reported anything too out of the ordinary here, and you seem to be safe as long as you stand on the ground, but falling over the edge here is another story. The truth is, no one really knows or dares to find out what would happen if anything, or anyone, was to fall over the edge here. Some say you’ll get transported into another dimension, some say you’ll fall straight into hell and still others have come up with some weird results of their own experiments. What seems to happen most often, and has also happened to Tadej in 2-XXXIII, is that anything or anyone who falls over the edge will end up right in the same place. When you fall for long enough, eventually you will fall from the sky and land back at the spot you landed on. It’s this phenomenon that baffles people most of all and probably the first people think of when they hear about End of the World. It’s also one of the most debated topics, what exactly happens and why when you are falling, but as of now there have been no conclusive answers.
Paranormal Activity
How much weirder does it have to get you ask? Well, let’s return to the anomalies that appear on people’s photos, videos and audio recording in this area. A lot of it is pretty much what you might expect - strange shadows or figures appearing in pictures, strange voices on the recordings that the person didn’t hear at the time of the recording, corrupted files and similar things.
Particularly interesting is a case of a woman who took a photo in the area, much like many others, to see what would happen. Results were interesting, to say the least. The photo itself doesn’t seem too strange, considering the area it was taken in. It’s a view of the ocean below, but with a strange strip of light that wasn’t there at the time of taking the photo. What’s more interesting is the resolution of the photo. As any smartphone owner will know, the camera may be set to take a few different resolutions of photos such as 16:9 or 18.5:9 - but the resolution of this photo was different from any options found in the camera settings. The resolution couldn’t be set to what it was, and it was also proven that the photo was not tampered with. To this day no one can explain these photos.
Besides strange occurrences on photos and videos, many people visiting this area have reported some or the other strange feelings and experiences. Many may feel anxiety or face a strange kind of existential sadness they can’t explain. Many also experience a strong urge to jump from the edge into the unknown. A lot of people also report having a feeling that they’re not alone there, that they are being watched or followed, despite no one being around - it’s a vast empty area where they would have seen if anyone else was there with them. Some have even reported some of their belongings going missing, despite no one else being there and them not leaving anything behind.
Why is this place so weird?
It’s not entirely sure why exactly all these strange things are happening here, and people have many theories. One that is most popular is the one that relies on the fact that End of the World is located exactly on the opposite side of the world from Gates of Hell. It isn’t hard to imagine that dark forces would be at work at such a place. Everything that resides in Hell could easily come out at this very spot.
Other people believe that this doesn’t have anything to do with Hell in particular, but that the location is simply just one of the 4 ends of the world, where this world borders on the otherworldly - other 3 ends being Gates of Hell, Mountain Fortress and Heavenly Towers.
Sceptics on the other hand aren’t too impressed. They like to attribute all of what happens there to hoaxes and mass hysteria. They don’t believe anything weird is happening there, it’s all people’s attempts at seeking attention, or simply being influenced to believe something strange is really happening to them out there. But, the proof of weird happenings there is simply overwhelming, so sceptics have harder and harder time defending their points.
People who go there and why
Despite all the strange occurrences here, or maybe because of them, this area is one of the popular spots people like to visit. Unsurprisingly, most people visiting are adventurers and people interested in the paranormal. They come here to explore, take pictures or videos and see what strange phenomena they might experience themselves. The most adventurous, or straight up insane also try to jump off of the cliff to see what happens. Usually they will land back where they jumped from, but there have been a few who have never been seen again. It’s a very real possibility that they fell straight into Hell, but if you’re willing to risk that, you may go up there and try to jump from End of the World yourself.
