Apocalypse

The world before apocalypse

At the time of the apocalypse, the year was presumably 2006, and the world (Today known as Round Earth) was in many ways similar to ours, but very different in other ways.

It was inhabited by humans that were similar looking to moles, yet differed from them in many ways. They treated each other much more poorly, only forming small families; the concept of BFF weddings was unknown to them. They seemed to have weaker immune systems, but were just as reckless as moles. They were significantly more unemotional, but they may have been smarter in some ways. After all, they created all of the technology that’s still useful to this day. They were also smart enough to know an apocalyptic event was inevitable, and they prepared for it by building a seed vault that would hold all of the seeds of the plants that existed in the world then. Thanks to this, we were able to rebuild our civilization after the apocalypse.

While undoubtedly very intelligent in some ways, they were unfortunately really dumb in other way, which ultimately led to their downfall. Compared to some other timelines, this world was relatively quick to invent the internet and social media. This was a new revolutionary, never before seen way for people to connect and share information. A lot of this information was good, useful and convenient, but unfortunately it also connected the dumb people and gave them platforms to announce their stupidity. Sure our society today is more than guilty of this as well, but for the ancient civilization this was the start of the downward spiral. Their gods were a lot less patient than our Glitter God and Satan, who to be honest are probably worse than any of the people of the ancient world. It was somewhere between wars and m-preg fanfictions where God and Lucifer who owned that world lost their patience.

Downfall

The world then still seemed salvageable, if only they could get rid of seemingly increasing population of stupid people. Lucifer quickly came up with the solution to that. Watching people, he soon realized that people are very easy to manipulate with the help of the internet. The kind of people who they were looking to get rid of, were quick to fall for any stupid trend they saw on the internet, no matter how stupid or even dangerous it was.

And so, in phase one, Lucifer influenced people to start spreading around numerous risky challenges that were sure to weed out the stupidest people of the world. While surprisingly successful, this didn’t seem to be enough to make a big enough impact on a society as a whole. If anything, it was disheartening to see how many people were on board with this type of stuff.

It was time to come up with something more effective. This was when God created a virus. This was a new virus, never before seen by people, and it started spreading among people quickly and killing many of them. But again, there was a problem as the virus ended up killing a lot of smart people as well.

It was around that time when God and Lucifer decided there’s only one thing left to do: destroy the planet entirely. They decided that the most effective way to do this was to send an asteroid towards the world to blast it into many pieces.

The Apocalypse

This was it, the time to destroy the world as we knew it. But people were a little bit smarter than God and Lucifer thought and they quickly caught on to what was going on. They noticed the asteroid heading towards their world just in time to still be able to come up with a plan.

Obviously, there was not too much they could do, nowhere to go, no other planet to escape to. And so, the only way seemed to be to retreat underground. They promptly started building a network of underground bunkers that would be able to hold as many people as possible. They redirected all of their work and resources into building and supplying these bunkers as fast as they could.

They were able to evacuate a lot of people by the time of the apocalypse, but alas, most were left behind to die. The last day when the majority of people retreated down into the underground bunkers is today known as Descent.

Now, trapped underground, it was time for them to figure out what to do next. Clearly, humans were not well adapted to living in these new conditions and they surely won’t survive long enough to be able to return to the surface - if there’s any surface left. Just when the people thought they might be safe, the asteroid hit the Round Earth and blasted it into hundreds of small pieces.

But as soon as this happened, Glitter God and Satan, two gods without a world of their own, took what was left of the old world in attempt to salvage what they could and create their very own world out of it.

Life Underground

Despite the world being completely destroyed and most of its population ending up killed, there still were survivors, who were now trapped underground. They knew they would have to make some drastic changes if they were to survive. Under the guidance of their new gods, Glitter God and Satan, they started creating a new humanoid species that would be better adapted to life underground. This was no easy task, and at first it resulted in many species that wouldn’t survive for long. Against all odds, one of them did survive to this day, the dreaded homunculus. Their most successful attempt was creating a species that was a hybrid of humans, naked mole rats and olms. This species is today the main species of our world - the mole people. Also very successful, but today not as numerous species was the one that used bats in place of naked mole rats, these are today’s bat people.

Both Species continued to live in underground bunkers, though both of them lived in different places and didn’t interact much with each other.

But it wasn’t only people that had a hard time surviving; one might say the animals of the old world had an even harder time. Vast majority of animal species went completely extinct. People were mainly only able to keep the ones they needed, such as pets and livestock. They had to genetically modify these as well, and today most of the animals you’ll see in our world are a hybrid of a different combination of old world species. Catbunnies for example are a mix of a cat and a bunny, peacocks are a mix of the old peacock and chicken, and so on.

The New World

While the people kept themselves busy with genetically modifying humanoid and animal species, Glitter God and Satan were trying their best to put together a new world where the new people could live. They survived underground for now just fine, but everyone knew this was a temporary solution at best.

While the people were struggling underground, Glitter God and Satan got to work, constructing a new world for them, out of the pieces of the old one. They primarily took pieces that the ancient people might recognize as parts of Europe, North Africa and West Asia. They took what they could, so many other parts may be mixed in there too. Not that it matters too much, as the world today is a whole new landmass, unrecognizable to ancient people. The one most important part the gods got was the seed vault, located on a landmass known as Svalbard back then.

They put together all of the pieces to create a landmass approximately the size and shape of the ancient Australia, they put the svalbard into the mountains on the bottom side of the landmass, and then realized they ran out of usable chunks. So the world today is flat, consisting of the normal top part consisting of forests, grasslands, deserts, mountains, rivers, lakes and everything else. Bottom part on the other hand is literally just that - the bottom of the top part. The land here is more or less a vast barren wasteland, where only dead things could survive. If the top part represents the new life of the new world, the bottom is the reminder of the death and desolation that struck the world eons ago.

Nevertheless, people managed to populate the bottom part just as well as the top one; thus creating the two major continents that we know today: Ä+*4~ and T@Ö#Ä3.

Apocalipse in people’s memories

Now, hundreds of years later the memory of the apocalypse is still very much alive in people’s minds. They know they were lucky to get a second chance after such a cataclysmic event, and they don’t take their lives and their world for granted. Every day they work to take care of their world and each other. Though their ancestors who were alive for the apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic time are now long gone, people today still hold celebrations in memory of what their race had to go through to build up the good lives they have today. Most notable of these is the dead month in rainy season. At this time they relive the days when their ancestors were trapped underground, unable to live their lives. The memory of the apocalypse and post-apocalypse pops up in some other traditions as well, Lanternfest itself is a celebration that has been around since the very beginning of the new world. But as hard as people try, they can never be sure that another apocalyptic event can’t still happen. Only the future will tell what will become of our world.
