Dragon
Basic Information
Anatomy
Dragons are a unique class of creature exclusive to the Fantasme. Much like birds they originally evolved from dinosaurs, but relied heavily on magic to survive, so when the Fused Earth split, they were wiped from New Earth entirely.
The term 'dragon' applies to many species, but the most common ones tend to be very large, almost the size of whales. They tend to have lizard-like features and are covered in a coat of feathers, giving them a bird aesthetic as well. Most dragons tend to only have 1 or 2 pairs of legs, a set of large wings, and a long tail with splayed feathers at the end, acting as a rudder.
Despite their size, dragons are still capable of lfight, and are aided with magic to make their bodies lighter. Some dragons have hallow bones, others eat mineral deposits of Orbitite, and some even have glands that can turn oxygen into lighter gasses and allow them extra buoyancy.
Defence
Most dragons are territorial and have physical adaptations to defend themselves, such as horns or claws, but they also have magical powers that can be used against enemies. These com in the form of magic they shoot their their mouths from a gland in the back of their throats. Different types of dragons can use different magics, from elemental magic like ice and fire, to more arcane like hypnotism to disorient their opponent.Species Diversity
As stated before dragons can come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. Many recognizable species of dragon have adapted to their magic type, taking on a form an color pallet associated and penificial for their powers. There are other species of dragon which are considered "off shoots" of the species, due to their extreme physical differences from other members of the dragon family, such as Birigon, Moragon, Baganon, and the legendary Big Mamba.Genetics and Reproduction
Most dragon species lay eggs. Often these eggs are large with very hard shells that are difficult to break open. It's been reported that even long drops fail to crack them. In fact, the shells never weaken until the baby has gestated long enough to be ready to break it open themselves. Dragon eggs tend to be colorful and the markings on the egg can assist in identifying the species of dragon that rests inside.
Dragons tend to only mate in the wild, as it's been shown that dragons in captivity will refuse to mate. This makes conversing more rare species from extinction a difficult task.
Growth Rate & Stages
While dragon growth different between species, often they are born with out feathers or horns. Most dragon will grow their feathers shortly after hatching, and horns will grow as the dragon reaches adolescence. Horns are not exclusive to a single gender, so both males and females will have horns.
Ecology and Habitats
Dragons can be found all over the Fantasme, as many of them require different types of environments to survive. However many dragons tend to like elevated locations and will tend to stick around hilly mountainous regions, like those of Ghliteren.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Most dragon species are carnivores or omnivores. Their prey often varies depending of the amount of food they need to survive. Most go after flying pray like large birds, Cloud Flipper, and even other dragons.
