Thalassrah
Thalassrah is one of the four Elemental Gate communities of Exorsia, built around the Elemental Gate of Water, which connects Exorsia to the Elemental Plane of Water.
Thalassrah is located within the depths of the Red Current, in the midst of the Kuai Archipelago, the city centred around the Elemental Gate of Water which lies at it's centre.
Thalassrah is the largest of the Elemental Gate communities, a large city with numerous buildings, streets and businesses, the centre of which is situated within a Magical bubble-like dome, allowing those inside to breathe air. Thalassrah is one of the few underwater settlements open to surface dwellers, attracting visitors from all across Exorsia to trade and study. Thalassrah also uniquely has a port located above the surface on the nearby island of Pukai, known as Thalasport, allowing for trade with the surface and passing trade ships.
Thalassrah is the home to a large population of species, particularly underwater species like Merfolk and Sea Elves. Due to the community's proximity to the Elemental Gate of Water, Thalassrah also has a high population of Water Genasi.
Government
Thalassrah is governed by the Council of Tides, an elected board of councillors, each representing one of the cities cultures or peoples.
The councillors are usually elders, and stand until they retire, or they are voted out by the population.
Defence
Thalassrah is defended by a small group of career soldiers, Druids, and Spellcasters, as well as a standing army made up of the local population.
Every year citizens are randomly selected to join the army, where they are trained and tasked with defending the city, and guarding the Elemental Gate of Water against any unwanted visitors that may journey through. The soldiers serve for up to 10 years before returning to their lives.
Commerce
Thalassrah is connected to both the underwater Merfolk trade network, as well as the Red Current Trade Route that traverses the waters of the Red Current above, making it a hotspot for crafted goods, seafood and unique minerals traded between the surface and the depths.
Geography
Thalassrah is a large circular city, filled with numerous sprawling districts, buildings, streets and businesses. The central districts of Thalassrah is located within a large, Magical bubble-like dome that cycles air, allowing surface dwellers to survive there.
The Elemental Gate of Water itself is located at the direct centre of the city, defended within a large, heavily armed fortress; the lack of water around the Gate makes it difficult for the denizens of the Elemental Plane of Water to cross over.
