Kálakalán
Kálakalán is a port town located on the western coast of the island of Buhan, situated within the south of the Kuai Archipelago, and nearby the Red Current channel.
Kálakalán is an independent settlement, and one of the primary ports for trade ships taking the Red Current Trade Route, between Port Nyras and Calgern Port. Kálakalán is a common stop for traders and cargo ships to rest, as well as buy and sell goods and wares, before continuing on their journey.
Government
Kálakalán is governed by a monarch, a hereditary title passed down through the family line when the monarch dies or abdicates. The monarch of Kálakalán doesn't have to be biologically related to the former monarch, with Adoption being a common way of selecting a worthy heir.
Defence
Kálakalán is defended by a royal militia, funded by the monarchy. A small fleet of warships is also docked at Kálakalán, who are responsible for defending the town, as well as nearby trade ships, from pirates.
Commerce
Kálakalán is the second largest trade port in the Kuai Archipelago, with a continuous flow of goods passing through it's harbour from the numerous trade ships travelling the Red Current between the nations of the Coven of Maran and the Varin Empire.
Kálakalán is filled with many markets, as well as a few taverns, inns and other amenities, which cater to the constant stream of sailors and traders that pass through the town. Most of any goods can be found within the town's walls.
Kálakalán also has a small fishing trade, as well as having a small agricultural trade of crops, animal products, and particularly native fruits that are grown on the island.
Geography
Kálakalán is a bustling town situated on the western coast of the island of Buhan, and nearby the tropical jungle that covers the rest of the island. The town surrounded by a few acres of farmland.
Kálakalán is a walled city, with it surrounded by a thick stone wall, that extends into the sea, flanking the harbour, leaving a small opening of ships to come and go. The wall is mounted with battlements and siege weaponry, particularly on the side facing the sea.
The town itself is an ordered network of buildings, primarily of a circular, hut-like shape, and made of wood. The town centre houses the Royal Palace of Kálakalán, who's front gardens hold the town's bazaar, a collection of colourful market stalls, selling all manner of goods, from food to jewellery and weapons. Located at the western part of town is the town harbour, with a multiple docks, which house fishing vessels, visiting trade ships, as well as warships. A lighthouse rests at the centre of the harbour.
