Merfolk
Merfolk are a species of aquatic humanoids with a fin-like tail instead of legs. They are commonly found in towns, cities and kingdoms beneath the waves.
Merfolk are more closely related to dolphins than to surface dwelling folk.
Merfolk are as developed as the people on the surface and their communities vary as much as on the surface too, some Merfolk are peaceful, happily living beneath the waves alongside other underwater species, some are far more violent, waging vast wars along the sea bed, and others enjoy using their charms and song to lure sailors to their watery graves. Many of these Merfolk worship Poseidon, their Divine Patron.
While Merfolk can breathe air they rarely surface as they are unable to walk on land.
