Lethe - River of Oblivion
Lethe is the personification of one of the Rivers of the Underworld, alongside Acheron, Kokytos, Phlegethon and Styx. She is a lethargic figure who expresses very little emotion or energy.
Lethe is one of the caretakers of the Underworld, assisting Hades and Persephone in the management of the Lands of the Dead. Lethe is mainly responsible for ferrying souls through the underworld, specifically to Elysium. She is also responsible for wiping the painful memories of the dead and washing away the forgotten.
Lethe is also the primary consort of the God Hypnos, who’s realm of Oneiroi is traversed by the River Lethe, which is why so many dreams are forgotten.
Like Chthonic Deities, due to Lethe’s association with the Underworld and death, she is rarely referred to by name, as it was believed it would call her attention. Therefore she is almost always referred to by epithets, such as “The River of Oblivion”.
Apperance:
Lethe is usually depicted as feminine, commonly as a yellow skinned figure with long white hair and vacant white eyes. She is almost exclusively depicted nude.
