The Grand Temple of Tilanos
The sound of hammers striking metal, punctuated by loud chanting in Dwarvish, hits your ears like bells ringing as you approach this massive, gleaming building of impossibilities. A hooded acolyte bows as you climb the Hundred Steps of Imagination, beckoning you inside, to join in on the worship of The Great Creator.
Purpose / Function
The grandest and largest of all Makers temples outside of Aaldenbur, the Grand Temple of Tilanos is a masterpiece cathedral meant to attract and hold large crowds. It is a manufactory of unmatched proportions. Holy festivals in the name of Tilanos most holy are held here.
Entries
The massive golden doors at the front of the cathedral are how most people come in and out. There are many well-hidden side doors for clergy and an iron-wrought back door the size of a small building for deliveries of raw materials. Stained glass windows as tall as a Langite are put into the metal walls every fifteen feet.
Denizens
Alton the Wise, High Priest of the Makers in Dragonscale. He is a human man scarred by fire and has a false eye as silver as his hair.
Dreika, a matronly Dwarf who oversees maintenance staff.
Master Eldriss, a Halfling who inducts potential acolytes into the holy order.
Contents & Furnishings
Giant forges line the entryway, and worshippers are led by a path of gemstone-laden stone partitions to a grand atrium. This room is where services are held, lined with pews of a thousand different materials and all facing the center of the room, a raised dais the priests preach from.
Architecture
A thousand massive bells of every kind of metal imaginable, beaten and melted and beaten again into the masterpiece of architecture that stands before you. A tower of granite quarried from Aaldenbur supports each of the thirteen corners of this building, and a hundred marble steps lead up to the golden double-doors of the entrance.
History
Constructed in 1109, the Grand Temple was the project of the dwarf Aerin the Pious, who claimed he had received a vision instructing him to built the most magnificent tribute to Tilanos in existence. Since then, the priesthood of the Makers has sent yearly pilgrimages to the temple, which traditionally hosts massive celebrations on Worker's Day in which worshippers offer gifts wrought by hand to the forge god.
