Village of Ledkir Settlement in Evera | World Anvil

Village of Ledkir

This town, located at the foot of the Claw Mountains, is the oldest settlement of the Segai beastman. It is a symbol of the overwhelming power and indestructibility of the Segaii.

This well-developed settlement, surrounded by defensive lines made of logs and earthen walls, is currently the most advanced that the Beastman living on the continent can show. Regardless, they still call it a "village".
The locals do not welcome outsiders, expect from those escorted to the village by they own scouts (merchants and hunters, with goods to sell) or Messengers from the other tribes.
Ledkir has a bustling Market in the north, there are three - let's call it - inns, a weaver, a tannery, and, alone among the Segai settlements, a blacksmith.

Most Beastman lives by hunting and gathering, and they keep a few animals in pens and cages: colorful, turky-sized birds, parrots, mountain goats and even giant rats. They don't keep anything that would be difficult to feed. They don't grow plants, but over the years, mangoes, dates, bananas and cinnamon started to grow between the houses - from the waste. Generally, the innkeepers and their families collect the fruits of these.
The settlement can field about 1,000 warriors for it's protection, including the scouts patrolling around the village, the hunting parties that roam the jungle, and the young and the old who are just capable of wielding weapons. The number of the hunters (The Warriors) is sightly less than this.

Kormányzás

Ledkir is the town of the Snat (mountain) tribe and the seat of the mighty Khragol chieftain. Khragol can trace his ancestry all the way back to Shadbak, and earned his rank in a bloody three-day long duel, when he was only twenty-two years old. Almost twenty years passed since then, and there was no worthy opponent either on the battlefield or among his challengers.
His two closest advisors are his first wife, Dura (the lion-segai), and the leader of the village's shamans, Shugan (the buffalo-segai), who is believed to be an oracle.

Infrastruktúra

Ledkir still retains the image of its early years. The winding streets are not pawed, the garbage is carried just outside of the walls. The drinking water is provided by a stream, that flows in a north-south direction along the main street of the village on the hill side.

The buildings of Ledkir can be divided into three groups. There are smaller residential buildings, intended to shelter from the rain. These have a round floor plan, with wooden logs or beams as framework and palm leafs or similar sized plats tied to them. There are larger buildings, such as workshops, shops and inns, which are usually built on stilts (or at least they has a second floor), so they are bigger than the others. These have plank or log walls and roofs. The last type is the ancient, elven stone buildings, which are located on the south side of the town. Many of them where patched up to the best of their ability, and used as residential buildings, warehouses, etc.

Történelem

In the ancient times, this place was a Surta elven temple and crypt. Vangrakath created his people, the Segai, on the lushes part of the jungle, it's known as the "Hunting grounds" today. The temple was close to the newcomers, and they feared the elven magic and the undead so badly, that they pillaged the temple and turned the graves, burned all the remains. This was the first serious clash between the two races.
After the Segaii proliferated in the region, the first Chieftain, Shadbak, established a camp near the elven ruins. As the campaign against the Elves was long, the camp got more and more structures: workshops, warehouses, later houses, then shops, and became a settlement, still growing to day.

Points of interest

Soggy Tucan Tavern:

This poor Inn is a long, columned building with a palm-leaf roof, with a long brazier running through the middle, where guests can cook their own food. Around it, logs serve as benches, and there are a few smaller tables between the columns, equipped with similar benches. Locals often gather here in large numbers to discuss the news of the day. (More GM informations on the sidebar!)
In the building, the smell of stale beer mixes with the stench of the goat pen right next to it, to which is added the bitter smoke of the wet wood of the stove, which at least keeps the insects away.
The innkeeper: Olumba (L), a lizard (dragon) segai. He usually cuts wood or taps beer, and milks the goats in the morning. Olumba could be a young hunter, but his eyes are quite bandy and his aiming skills are not the best. With the goats and the inn, he made himself a useful member of the community. He sells the remaining beer of "Little Fang", and his wife (Usha, buffalo segai, L) bakes the flat bread at dawn before she goes hunting in the area.
Strange guest: An old Segai sits at the head of the stove: The old buffalo is Usha's father, Shugan (C), who is said to "see far" when he covered in the acrid smoke of his long pipe. Shugan is the "first shaman" of the clan.

"It skinned it" - The Tanner:

The unpleasant smell of the tannery permeates the area. Lambug sells her craft and wares to local hunters in a small building with walls covered with rough boards. She also sells leather armor, backpacks, bows and arrows.
Owner: Lambug (N), the middle-aged snake segai woman. She likes to be talked nicely to and courted around. She is fond of special furs and skins.

The Market:

Dates, bananas, mangoes, cocoa, meats and livestock, goat milk products, eggs, basic adventure equipment are available here. Vendors offer their wares in wicker baskets and small wooden cages every day of the week. The large well is also located here, from which most of the locals get their water.

"Ornate West" - Tailor and clothing store:

Thin ropes are stretched between the columns of this airy building, complete with a shaded terrace, on which various painted and embroidered fabrics hang. You can buy linen, woven from jungle plants, here.
Owner: The widow Dulug (L) and her sons (Slog, Igug, Shak and Mub) (fox-segaii) run the business, her sons help her work until they get themselves a wife.

Dumb Turtle Pub:

This cheap little pub is mainly a popular gathering place for the young hunters. The service takes place at one of the windows of the small house, and around it the host of guests take their seats on logs. Pub fights are common and gambling takes place in small stakes.
Owner: Bat (C, leopard-segai, older brother of Khargol). The place got its name after the fall of the previous chieftain, a turtle-segai, when he opened it.
Strange guest: an elderly leopard-segai woman cleans up after the guests incessantly, more than once loudly disparaging their behavior. Lash is the owner and chieftain's mother (L), watching for challengers who would threaten her son's position.

The Chieftain's House:

This three-story, terraced jungle palace built among trees is the second largest building in the small town. The first warrior of the village, Khragol, who is recognized as the chief of the tribe, lives here with his cubs and mates.
Chieftain of the Snag tribe: Khargol (L, leopard-segai), his first wife Dura (lion-segai).
Potential mission: Defeat the evil "smooth-skins" (cultists) in the tribe's territory.

"Fiery Metals" - The Forge:

The blacksmith's workshop is a small stone building standing apart from the other houses and trees, from which the sound of the anvil and the hammer can be heard from time to time.
Owner: An ancestor of Olur (N, monkey-segai) learned the secrets of metalworking from the elves as a slave, and the secret is passed on in the family. Olur's family have special rights in the tribe: his knowledge is extremely valuable to the community and the chieftain, so they are untouchable.

Old Roots Though:

This pub is located in a Surta elven ruin, in the basement of which gambling takes place at high stakes. The once imposing stone building partially collapsed when a huge tree grew on top of it. Support roots thicker than an arm inspired the name of the place. The Old Roots is a favorite meeting place of the settlement's seasoned hunters.
Owner: Zulga (L, tiger-segai man) lost one of his legs in battle, now he limps with a wooden leg, but it is said that he is still a deadly opponent. He gladly sits down among his guests while his wife and children serve them. The tales are usually about trophies and bloody clashes with other tribes, but politics, the undead, elves and other dangers that appear in the area are also discussed.
Strange guest: (WARNING! THE NEXT PARAGRAPH REFERES TO RAPE! IF THIS CANNOT BE PLACED IN YOUR CAMPAIGN, SKIP IT!)
Next to the counter, there is a cute little tiger cub, but if you look closely, it has the ears and nose of an elf. The half-breed tries to hide in a corner, usually left alone. If he notices the strangers, he becomes especially interested in the elves, and may even try to approach or follow the party. Kirle's mother is Zulga's youngest daughter, who was once kidnapped by the elves, and at the cost of a lot of trouble was possible to bring home the enslaved young woman. The kid is a sad reminder of this event, but no cub is killed in Ledkir, so the half-breed is tolerated among them.

Little Fang Inn:

The best inn in town is only slightly better than the other pubs, but it has two "rooms" for rent, which mostly resemble a disused pig sty at the back of the building. Between the logs are half-log tables, and the firewood is also drier than elsewhere, so it smokes less. In a large enclosure next to the inn, giant rats run among the food scraps, hissing at those who venture to the fence. The smell of cinnamon, mango and spicy roast meat wafts around the building.
Owner: Rogmesh (L, crocodile segai woman) is not young, but has maintained her independence and created a successful business where she runs a pleasant but busy place with two subordinates.
Strange guest: sometimes Lash pops up to check on the rival business...

Ancient ruins and cemetery:

At the southern end of Ledkir, ruins built of white stones between the rocks cover the jungle between the trees. The Segaii reused a lot of them for some purpose, the once noble buildings became dwelling houses and sheds. The most grandiose, which was once a palace or a temple, and whose dome has survived the centuries, is now the residence of the village shamans: a healing place, a school and a spiritual center.
The crypt below had been completely looted when their ancestors settled here, fearing that the dead elves would return and take revenge on them for usurping their land.

Yarr! Excellent detail on this article! It makes me very curious about the Segai beastman. I wonder what future plans this settlement may have, and how it intends to continue to develop.

I love how you set up this article. It is easy to imagine everything, and well organized for anyone who chose to use it in a campaign.
