Government

A council of elders rules Runswick. These elders are generally agreed to be the most knowledgeable and trusted members of the community. Given that this is a dwarven settlement, everyone in the ruling council is a dwarf, and almost all of them have been in the council since the founding of the settlement.

Defences

The defenses of the town leave a lot of to be desired. It was not designed as a fortress or really to withstand battles. The town is protected by a wooden wall and two gates with a constant watch. It wasn't until the takeover by Naarzon that the city started to be a bit more proactive in its defense.

Industry & Trade

Runswick relies heavily on trade from travelling merchants. Its storehouses are fed by the surrounding farms, who often trade part of their crops for other services, particularly crafting and blacksmithing. The town guard has often been deployed to help protect the farms from bandits and other menaces.

Guilds and Factions

The Council
The Council of Runswick has been the commanding faction of the town since its inception centuries ago. After it's liberation, the Blacksins have taken charge of the administration of the town as their base of operations. Though they still consult the council on relevant matters.
Blacksins
After assassinating the devil Naarzon, a small party of the mercenaries escaped the city only to return days later with an army. The chaos caused by the assassination allowed the mecenaries to emerge victories in the small battle that ensued. Now the Blacksins control Runswick and use it as their base of operations.
The Farmers
While many don't actually live inside the town, the power of the farmers in Runswick is considerable. After a prolonged lobbying campaign, they have managed to install one of their own into the council itself.
The Redhelms
The Duchess is the lawful sovereign of the Sagris Fields and therefore of Runswick as well. Her battles with the Illriggers have caused her to lose much of her previous territory, but her people are not yet gone.
The Order of Iegaglar
While not a particularly welcome sight, the Order had sent one of their agents to investigate some strange occurrences in town. After the Illrigger occupation, Gerdga Bloodkith shifted her focus to undermining their rule in the town.

Architecture

The architecture of the town speaks highly of dwarven craft. All of the buildings in the town are made from the square stone style that dwarves are used to making. While their style is not as flashy and elegant as the buildings one could find in big dwarven cities, the structures are solid and neatly decorated.
