The Jazzy Rat

The Jazzy Rat is the destination point for any traveler spending a night in Runswick. It has a remarkably jovial atmosphere that is a welcome relief from the cold attitudes of the city dwarves.

Architecture

Like most of Runswick, the Jazzy Rat is a callback to an older style of dwarven architecture. Yet, the structure still holds its ground and its beauty. Made of a mixture of stone from the mines in the south, this building has an appealing light grey coloration with hints of red in spots. One of its most eye-catching details is the sign of the dancing rat on its front wall. The sign is painted and decorated with gem dust that, while almost ancient, still holds its luster.

History

The establishment's claim to fame is a purported visit by the emperor during the conquering. It is said that the emperor and his retinue stumbled upon the then-nascent town looking for a place to rest and demanding entertainment. In a moment of panic and, great creativity, one of the servants, dashed to the basement looking for anything that would serve. They found no instruments, songs, or stories. But they had mead, and a drunken audience is, generally speaking, an easy audience. So the servant rushed back upstairs carrying some kegs, and when they started to serve the soldiers, the local rats, the bane of their existence, sprung from the kegs. The rats moved so erratically that the tipsy soldiers, and Torevir himself, believed them to be dancing. Not one to question the judgment of seasoned warriors, the servant followed along and pretended that had been his intention and performance all along.
Come taste the best stew in town! And while you're at it, grab our Empire Suite and sleep on the same bed Torevir himself slept! If you're lucky, you might even catch a performance by the magical rodents who entertained the emperor and his retinue.
