The Shrine of Skardi

A temple dedicated to the dwarven deity of civilization.

Alterations

Those that walked around in centuries past will miss the expansive nature the temple used to have. It originally was a massive dome that could house an entire regiment in it. But that was before its destruction. Now the temple has been rebuilt in a more humble fashion and is no wider than the average dwarven home. Efforts to expand on the building these days consist on building deeper into the ground rather than expanding outwards on the surface.

Architecture

The reconstruction effort was not perfect, so the temple does stand out as not being in entirely the same style as the other buildings in town despite still clinging to a classic dwarven style. This square building was crafted with fine whitestone and a sprinkle of gemstone dust here and there. The gemdust can be noticed at dawn where it always makes the building look as it was covered in morning dew.

History

Built originally after decades of collaboration between dwarven tribes, this temple used to be the pride of the Sagris Fields. It was a major place of worship in centuries past and a great unifying force between the dwarven clans at a time when the wounds of war were still raw. It was destroyed during the War of the Sunless Skies and left abandoned for decades. It wasn't until relatively recently that the citizens of Runswick decided to rebuild it on their own.
This building is a testament to the perseverance of all our dwarvenkin and to the power that the gods still have in this land.
