Vulcanites / The God of Fire

Iconography & Honorific

Ignis, God of Fire, [Lord of Flames/He Who Illuminates]. Ignis is symbolized by the holy symbol of twin pillars of flame surrounding his visage a burning visage with wings spread wide above a volcano. The volcano was said to be the cradle of life, the spark that Ignis used to create Espen which burns hotter than any other. The followers of Ignis adopted the name Vulcanites from the Old Dwarven meaning "Heaven's Fire." While the Vulcanite faith is rooted in fire, it is not considered a destructive force, but instead a cleansing flame. The militant arm of the Vulcanite faith are known as Immolates, Old Dwarven for "the Burned Ones."   The images related to the Vulcanite faith are most regularly connected with a culture steeped in blacksmithing and forging. Their holy symbols, legends, and iconography include:
  • The Undying Flame of Ignis
  • The Worldforge Anvil
  • Old Stone Runes
  • Brightburn's Hammer
  • Parable of the Hot & Cold Chisel
  • Tale of the Old Hearth

Creation Mythos

The nomadic tribes of the Dwarven people wandered aimlessly through darkened jungles. For nights on end they stumbled in the darkness until from the ground itself, a path was illuminated. The steps of Ignis, pools of molten lava that had set the forests ablaze, were laid out in front of them leading them to their promised land. Journeying further north, many non-believers broke away from the tribe as the northern climes made travel difficult. For his chosen people Ignis warmed the group and brought forth firefruits to nourish people. Their journey came to an end at the top of the world where a hearth was built as a testament to his love for the Dwarven people.

Tenets

  1. Power - The Dwarven people are to yield no culture. The power of Ignis flows through them with the strength of Blackstone and the power to burn away the impure.
  2. Purity - Truth is discovered in the flames. Many seek to obscure their misdeed, covering them with lies and deceit. The devout do not fear the flames of truth for in the fires of Ignis all is revealed.
  3. Pride - Unabashed commitment to the cause of Ignis, dwarves are known to engage in revelry and drink, all of which creates a jovial nature that should allow for pride in their work and play. Not to be bogged down with the legalese and dogma of other cultures.

Hierarchy

  • The Apostle King/Queen - Each Dwarven city is ruled over by the Apostle King or Queen. Bound by the Iron-Sentinel Entente an inner-dwarven agreement to establish individual sovereign kingdoms within the dwarven culture.
  • The Red Vizar - The head of any king's or queen's court is the Red Vizar. The Vizar holds unquestionable power in Dwarven territory and is only answerable to their respective king or queen. The Vizar may also act as an arbiter for inner-city disputes between shop owners as well as in any criminal proceedings.
  • King/Queen's Court - Each city has a court ranging anywhere from 5-12 members each of which is responsible for a variety of civic duties related to the city.
