Vikings
Vikings were at first only Human. They were from different parts of Malnax, and were aligned with elemental magic (see Types of Magic entry). The vikings took the deities of a certain Elemental Plane to follow.
The Vikings were craftspeople, farmers, seafarers, merchants, explorers and warriors from the continent of Malnax. They lived in Esau from approximately 950 AG to 1100 AG.
Despite their reputation as brave warriors and terrifying raiders, many Vikings spent most of their time farming and fishing. The Vikings grew wheat to make bread and beer, and raised animals such as sheep, pigs and cattle. The seas were very important for Viking life and fishing provided a big part of the Viking diet.
Vikings worked long hours, carrying, and using heavy equipment which contributed to the formation of muscles, even from an early age. Another reason for the significant strength of the Vikings was their diet. Vikings were mostly hunters, not gatherers, due to their cold, harsh environment.
The Vikings had been, along with other Human, Elves and Dragonborn, the first to take the Genasi people as slaves.
Some Vikings thrieved on attacking towns and villages, taking away much treasure. They become known to have enslaved and blundered. They were raised to believe take no rest and give no mercy - these furious Vikings lived to conquer. Clans shed blood for the right to call themselves the mightiest in all of Esau. They desired to wreak vengeance upon their enemies.
These Vikings believed they were protected by their chosen omnipresent deities. These warriors fearlessly rushed into combat and believed they would defeat all their enemies - for they knew no greater honour than to die fighting.
They were considered:-
* Ambitious
* Bold
* Advanced, for their time
* To be Feared
Volvan
A Volvan is a type of shaman or witch, that practiced elemental magic.Volvan refers to them being a staff or wand carrier. The staff or wand was also an important accessory in the carrying out of casting of magic. These Volvan carried a staff embruded with the element the clan aligned themselves with, and rune tokens of their same chosen element.
There have been some mysterious staffs found with the graves within the ruins of Viking villages. They have most often been found in the graves of Human females.
Groedari
A Groedari was the healer of a Viking clan. They were usually 'ugly' from the power they took from the clan's related Elemental Plane. They tended to be without gender. They were honoured as much as the Volvan.SLAVERS
They were the first to enslave the Genasi people - joined quickly by many other Human, Elves and Dragonborn. The Vikings considered the Genasi related to their chosen elemental plane as rightfully theirs.By force, brain-washing, torcer or threathening love ones, they would get the Genasi to be their slaves. Later, the Vikings encouraged them to fight each other in The Genasi Skirmish.
"It was a fearsome sight to see the firey Genasi storming alongside the strong Human Vikings."
"How were we expected to face the solid earth Genasi standing in front of the horde of Vikings."
"We had set up camp facing the sea, only two hours out from the next village. We wer tired and needed to heal our wounded.
I took second watch, with my dog Zazz. We heard a creaking noise - Zazz raised his head, but knew not to bark. I had never seen a wood Genasi before. He spotted me quickly, and placed branches covering our camp. Then I saw the Vikings coming off the ship - a mix of races, not just the Humans of the original Vikings clans. The wood Genasi joined them, as they headed towards the village."
"Nothing prepared us gnomes for the cloud of mist that hid within it the taller Vikings and their air Genasi fighters."
"The darkness loomed. I ran, turning back to see my people being slauntered by the Myrkri Vikings with shadowed unmentionable Genasi amongst them."
"The raid horn blew. The Vikings were on their way.
My ma hid me and my little brother in the cellar. We did as we were told to. We heard the wind whip up and huge footsteps over head. Afterwards, we did find a few air Genasi lying amonst the bodies of our village. I never saw our ma again."
