Bysian Realms

The Bysian Realms are the oldest political entity in the entirety of Sera. After millenia of bloody power struggles, the Elves gradually realized that their internecine conflicts would be unsustainable with the rise of competing nations such as the Appachian Strongholds.

Public Agenda

When the Third Age ended, and their greatest allies declined and imploded with the Cataclysm, the leaders of the Realm began to doubt their prior policies and idealism. Perhaps their influence was too dangerous, and interfering with fate, despite how careful they had been, was clearly a dangerous endeavour that had caused great harm. They attempted to withdraw from the global stage, isolating themselves from all but the the mages of Nova Speranza.   Unfortunately, some refused to let the Realms fade away in isolation, seeking violent retribution for the elves' mistakes. Ever since the formation of the Decian Remnant, the New Order's fanatics have frequently clashed with the elven military over the pettiest of excuses, impossible to appease no matter how many wars they fight.   The Realms have held the line, even as the rest of the world descends into barbaric violence and fear mongering. The Realms, and by extension Nova Speranza, remain safe for wizards and witches, and their respect for individual life is a trait lauded by many history texts. Despite the Realms' pacifism and aversion to death and destruction, their soldiers' calm, unpanicking nature and finely honed skills have kept the elves safe from foreign threats for longer than most of their would-be conquerors have even existed.

History

With the passage of several centuries and thousands more falling victim to the dying breaths of various petty kingdoms, the Realms' leaders began to create a unified cultural identity and tame the inherently destructive nature of their people.   In this it was successful, soothing the emotions of the member states and preventing further conflict. The Realms turned their attention outwards, seeking to restrain the aggressions of their warlike neighbors with varying degrees of success. The Orcs did not respect weakness, and so it took strength to gain their trust, and thus, an end to their border skirmishes. Relationships with the stout Dwarves of Appachia had always been rocky, and the diverse humans were an unpredictable lot.   Their opportunity to unify Bysia came with the rise of Matok, and the tyrannical threat of the Eclipse. In a stroke of masterful diplomacy, the elves of the Realms succeeded in convincing their counterparts in the other nations to work together to defeat the powerful empire they faced. Despite heavy casualties and major economic damage, the Realms were able to recover with the aid of the Kingdom of Decia, a young city-state on the rise. These close ties, fostered in Decia's infancy, proved to be a great boon as the world entered the Third Age.   This also meant that the decline of Decia hurt the Realms severely.

Military

Though lacking the industry for the powerful landships of the Remnant and the Republic, external threats have forced the elves into committing more heavily with what they do have - powerful Magics and warriors excelling at asymmetric warfare.   The arrows loosed from their finely crafted, if uncomplicated, recurve bows mount shaped charge warheads, blasting concentrated magical fire through armored infantry with ease. In lieu of heavy artillery batteries, elven mages warp the battlefield in their favor, raining explosive barrages with unnatural precision. Cavalry mounted on warhorses and armored carriages ripped apart supply lines and straggling units in the Border Wars, and many overconfident New Order pilots died screaming in the plumes of fire and razor-sharp claws of Dragons and their riders.
