Elves

The elves are an ancient people, building their civilization well before the Humans or any of the other, younger, species pulled themselves together. They are usually found in the Bysian Realms, and they used to frequently travel to other parts of the land, providing their wisdom and working to shepherd their neighbors towards peaceful resolutions. This strong aversion to what is often seen as senseless slaughter was borne of the conflicts that embroiled elven society prior to the unification of the Realms, and both this period of history as well as their inability to save Decia are serious sources of shame. It was the elves who unified the Alliance during the Great War, bringing the Decia to power and then to ruin, after all.   Since the Kingdom of Decia spectacularly imploded on itself, the elves have become hesitant to interact with the outside world, cautious that their powerful influence could once again have disastrous consequences for others. Now, though rarely hostile to outsiders, elven population centers have become much more watchful of foreigners. This is more a case of cultural views rather than organized surveillance. Most visitors do not notice these attitudes, as elves have a tendency to distance themselves from irrational and emotional behavior. An unusually large portion of the elven population are mages, as they appear to have a genetic predisposition for the manipulation of mana and magical tokens.   Their pacifistic nature does not, however, make them any less effective at fighting, as wise leaders can be found in even the most inexperienced militias, while professional units fight more efficiently than even the mightiest golems. Dispassionate and efficient in battle, with many years to hone their skills and senses, even those lacking basic spells are formidable opponents, as the finely-made warbows of the elves can fire enchanted arrows to devastating effect whatever formation they choose. It is worth noting that elvish military tactics rely on irregular methods of warfare, possibly as a result of the significance they place on the lives of their soldiers. This resolve will be undoubtedly be tested in the coming days of the Fourth Age, as violence flares up more and more frequently.
