It is widely agreed among the scholarly community that magic is the foundation upon which modern science was founded, as it was thanks to early attempts at alchemy and spellcasting that the methods of experimentation and observation we take for granted today exist in the first place. With this new understanding of the world, societies were able to rapidly develop at a pace that would otherwise have been impossible to achieve.
The other beneficial impact was likely a result of magic's mostly egalitarian nature, reducing the demands of manual labor such as housework while also having practical applications for everything from food preservation to healing wounds in the hands of the Mages who wielded it. The science of magic, as understood by the researchers who study it, has consistently enabled leaps and bounds in living standards and technological development, regardless of cultural views on mages have been across time and space.
Numerous technologies have developed either as a result of or a response to magic. Mana jars store magical energy in the inert form of precious stones, with a number of close relatives such as soul gems and Cavorite being integrated into various designs. Certain metalworking techniques can substitute bulky equipment with shifting to achieve the necessary temperatures and pressures for forging. Composite armor arrays are the latest product of military research and development, highly resistant to both shaped charge warheads and unfocused attempts at shifting, though most body armor remain simple rolled homogeneous steel.
