Decian Remnant

The Decian Remnant is the only survivor of the weakness that infected the Kingdom of Decia, founded by a failed military coup dissatisfied by the empire's gradual loss of hard power and attempts at reform and reconciliation.

Public Agenda

This resurgent empire claims to be the successor of Decia's true ideals, which the few recovered survivors of the Cataclysm were disinclined to dispute. The Kingdom is gone. In its place is something unrecognizable, relentlessly hunting down and deporting Mages or worse. The founders despised the weakness of the past, and although their meritocracy and worship of their innate superiority would horrify any member of the old royal court were they still alive, only the Elves make any distinctions. With both the populace and leadership indoctrinated from birth, tolerance of the "other" is unacceptable, and is unlikely to change anytime soon.   The Remnant remains a disturbingly staunch outlier in the civilized world. The Border Wars, sparked by aggressive land reclamation, saw Remnant soldiers unapologetically inflict atrocities upon the Realms for an ideology leagues beyond the wildest dreams of Old Decia's worst demagogues. The North-West powers vigilantly maintain contingency plans in the event of Decian invasion, and Speranzan citizens dread the name of the New Order far more than they do the Utar Confederacy or Old Decia.

History

With the birth of the Vulkan Republic and Nova Speranza, symbols of defiance against the Old Kingdom, extremist factions gained traction against the young king in power, who sought to mend relations with their former vassals and taming the paranoia of the declining empire. These militaristic sects sought to amass weaponry and manpower to enact a violent replacement of the emperor, but loyalist elements exposed the betrayal and forced the hand of the coup's leaders. Reborn in the flames of the war that ensued after the failed coup, the devotees of the Remnant realized the horrifying state Bysia was in, with thoughtless cruelty perpetuated by entitled parasites and spineless sycophants. Thus the New Order stands alone, a martial tradition and sedulous people preserving the bastion through near perpetual periods of warfare against anarchy and evil.   The New Order's past is marred by both hot and cold wars with their enemies, with particular animosity for the Vulkan Republic and the North-West Bloc, who fortunately share no borders with their enemy but still maintain constant vigilance against Remnant infiltration. The Bysian Realms are less so, and have been scapegoated for the decisions that led to Decia's downfall and a target for the eastward expansion programs that the Remnant constantly wages.

Military

Afforded incredible industrial output by sprawling factories, shipyards, and refineries, the armies of the Remnant are indisputably the most powerful military presence upon Bysia. Though often reputedly unsophisticated, emphasizing reliability and stopping power, blanket dismissals of the Grand Army's war materiel as obsolete are foolish. With nigh-limitless funding of its armed forces, the equipment of the New Order is constantly, if slowly, being upgraded to keep up with the changing times.   Just in 245 AV, the line infantry's rifled muskets were given discarding sabot cartridges after extensive field testing with the Order's elite grenadiers, whose ranks had already phased out muskets in favor of needle-fire rifles. Fighting in the Border Wars with the Elves, the Grand Army was crucial in humbling the Bysian Realms.   But in the end, the doctrine of the New Order does not favor the infantryman as much as it does other, more ostentatious demonstrations of its industrial might. The Grand Army's landships are on par with those of either the Vulkans or the Appachian Strongholds, while the Royal Airfleet and Navy each command more dreadnoughts than the entire North-West Bloc does. A relentless tide of such war machines is the nightmare scenario that every military planner in the rest of Bysia dreads, and such deep battle offensives have cost the lives of many stalwart defenders of the Realms.
