North-West Bloc
The North-West Bloc is one of the most powerful geopolitical entities on the face of Sera, with its key members being the Vulkan Republic, the Appachian Strongholds, and the Savoi Nations. Its primary goals are to facilitate economic and political ties between its geologically disparate members, provide a united front to foreign threats, and discourage hostility and unfavorable policies from non-members.
Public Agenda
In the eons before the Fourth Age, countless wars were fought under the watchful eyes of the gods, won with the power of faith and miracles wielded by their chosen. Civilizations rose and fell at the whims of forces beyond their comprehension, and none dared question the way of the world.
This is not the way of the North-West Bloc, who saw firsthand how the exalted men chosen by prophecies wreaked unholy devastation upon the world. They know that lasting peace and prosperity is built upon blood and steel wrought by mortal hands, for the gods care little for cultists blinded by indolence and hubris. There is no holy mandate for the existence of the North-West Bloc, unlike the alliance that defeated the Great Enemy; their trade agreements are driven by cold economic calculations and their wars fought with an unwavering pragmatism that borders on callousness.
Together, their soldiers, their landships, their skirmishers, their cruisers and carriers, have left piles of corpses and burning war machines in their wake. Together, they have survived, thrived even, without the need for foresight or holy intervention. Together, the members of the North-West Bloc are stronger than their enemies.
History
Founded in the early days of the Republic, the North-West Alliance was initially a way to secure trade routes and encourage military cooperation with the Dwarves. As the Vulkan military grew, so too did the alliance in both power and legitimacy. With the decreasing influence of the Decian Kingdom and the Bysian Realm, and the Decian Remnant wildly hostile to any outsiders, the Savoi Nations' call for aid was conveniently only answered by the North-West Alliance. While the price was bloody, it took little convincing for the Savoi to join the group, upon which it was renamed the North-West Bloc.
In the decades since, the North-West Bloc has become an entity challenging even the terrifying Remnant military in capability, having soundly proven itself in the fighting against the Kuran Empire.
