Kuran Empire

The Kuran Empire is a powerful entity that rules over a significant portion of Middle Sera.

Public Agenda

Populated entirely by Humans, the empire is ruled by an emperor or empress, backed by an incredibly strong central authority and divine mandate. The Kuran Empire is highly expansionist, seeking to secure its own strategic interests and, to the derision of some, views itself as the civilized part of a barbarous world. Most importantly, the Kuran Empire is determined to never again suffer the disasters that crippled and humiliated its people.   The long-running war with the Bysian power has been a bloody tug of war over the few islands fortresses between Bysia and Middle Sera. Efforts to create Imperial footholds in the war with the North-West Bloc have repeatedly suffered sky-high casualty figures, with difficulties achieving aerial supremacy and breaking the island fortresses of the Savoi Nations and its allies. Hence, the balance of power has shifted in favor of the North-West as they prepare to finally go on the offensive with a campaign to strike the Kuran mainland.

History

With a population larger than any other nation in the world, and early achievements with gunpowder, agricultural techniques, and maritime navigation, the Kuran nation quickly conquered and assimilated many continental rivals before shifting towards a more isolationist stance. Despite arguably superior military might, the Kurans did not bother to conquer the desert regions of northern Middle Sera. Instead, it established tightly-controlled trade routes that exchanged unique goods like moth cotton and porcelain for precious metals from foreign merchants.   These practices continued until the events of the Great War cut off trade and reduced Bysian desires for Kuran luxury goods, which crippled their exports industry and economic development as a whole. This was followed with the humiliation of the Kuran armed forces, which had become obsolete and ceremonial after decades of complacency, by the Kingdom of Decia. Decian representatives forced the royal court to reopen trade on favorable terms, causing political turmoil. The Kingdom of Decia had underestimated the average Kurans' devotion to the empire, eventually leading to several rewrites of the initial agreements that left neither side satisfied.   Despite several changes in the capital over the next few decades, the Kuran Empire would embark on a journey of rapid industrialization and urbanization, modernizing its military branches and technology in the image of Bysian powers. Flintlocks replaced the archaic wheelock muskets, and Cavorite would be stolen in a triumph of industrial espionage for the Kurans.

Military

Mages are rare in Kuran military and society, and observed with capabilities on par with Vulkan Republic combat mages. Military doctrine focuses on simple, mass-produced arms and coordinated swarm tactics to overwhelm enemy forces piecemeal and eventually gain control over the battlefield. Sophistication varies in Kuran ground and naval forces, equipped with anything from cutting-edge revolver rifles to ancient warships mounting broadside gun batteries. Kuran airships universally outnumber their opponents in battle, but are also far inferior to North-West Bloc equivalents.
