Apps Mining Company Headquarters

The Headquarters of the Apps Mining Company is a large fortified compound from which the corporation does most of its business in Alsona and the Apps Mountains. With close ties with the monarchy and multiple communities outside of the kingdom, this collection of structures has grown into a veritable embassy complex for myriad dwarven strongholds in the mountains and even Valtkos Wingo, as their own embassy has not been welcomed in Parthenonas. While it does offer a trading post, for the most part, the grounds are kept private except for welcomed and invited visitors.

Purpose / Function

The headquarters was built after a devastating raid by centaurs into northern Alsona. With the lackluster response of the monarchy and the Alsonan Rangers, and profits greatly diminished, the need was seen for new defenses away from the obvious and vulnerable target of a major town or city. It was also seen as a way to dodge taxation from the Alsonan nobility and aristocracy as they found a territory of unclaimed land which was purchased directly from the Crown between Asimi and Kevos. At the time it was seen as a needless expense which alienated multiple invested nobles, and helped contribute to the defection of many to the company's rivals, the Crysos Mining Company.

Alterations

The outbreak of the Wingo War led to improvements in the headquarters' defenses, particularly after a riotous crowd from Kevos accused the company to be in league with the dwarven rebels. The attack by the rioters was repelled by the mercenaries under the company's employ, but the bloodshed led to further regulations and clashes with the monarchy which the corporation could only lose. New walls, a keep, and multiple barracks helped to reinforce and build the structure, as the decline of the Crysos Mining Company's fortunes after the war assisted greatly.

Defenses

The headquarters has spared no expense at protecting the leadership and ambassadors that call the location their temporary home. Powerful stone walls designed by dwarven engineers and veterans of the Wingo War has helped bring experienced eyes to the needs of a fortified structure in the wilderness. Consisting of multiple defensive layers and buildings constructed to withstand modern siege weapons, the walls and garrison is fully staffed at all times by at minimum fifty mercenaries hired from the Royal Army's mustered out soldiers. These are supplemented by professionals hired by the dwarven strongholds that staff their ambassadors here, many of which have seen dozens or even hundreds of years of military service.
