Crysos Mining Company

Crysos Mining Company was a new player in the Kingdom of Alsona’s economy and political system in 1020. They were a mining organization that sought major profits and the exploitation of the ample natural resources of the western Alsonan forests. Wingo Mine was the largest population center not owned by any of Alsona’s old aristocracy or government, instead it had been owned directly by the Company. Numerous mines, shipping caravans, and lumber yards are owned by Crysos throughout eastern Alsona, despite the largest of their operations being in the west at Wingo. The collapse of the Wingo operation nearly halved their profits and resources, leading to a major economic shakeup in Alsona. Today the Crysos Mining Company is still the second largest mining enterprise in the kingdom

Structure

The Crysos Mining Company is controlled by a fairly faceless board of directors, consisting of anonymous aristocrats and merchants who invested their finances in the company. Several major Alsonan families have financial interests in the company, and each have their own agendas for its assets. The board itself is headed up by Georgi Cobrah, who was appointed when the company was founded by a variety of interests. When appointed he was a relative unknown man of mystery, but his efforts in leading the company have been extraordinary. He continues to be the spokesman and final say in all decisions when it comes to the Company.

Public Agenda

The Crysos Mining Company today stands for further integration of dwarves into Alsona and an end to hostilities between the new Valtkos Wingo and the Kingdom of Alsona. They also have taken a firm stance against corruption both in business and government, and Georgi Cobrah has stated that the company will constantly provide any aid and resources to those who take the fight to the Vovoi, Alsona's organized crime families. Repeated assassination attempts have made Cobrah a popular man among the people, and the company has constantly publicized its successes in preserving the integrity of Alsonan business.

Assets

The Crysos Company has a large amount of civilian miners on staff, and employs a large amount of the dwarven refugees from the Apps Mountains. The dwarves make up a large part of the company’s base of power, and the Mining Company attempts to represent many of their growing racial interests in Alsona. This claim and efforts were challenged by the dwarves themselves in Wingo Mine, where many dwarves had been held essentially as prison labor slaves to the Company. Prior to the war, the security forces of the mining company were typically veteran dwarf warriors who had seen service in the wars and unrest of their homeland. Most of these deserted the company during the Wingo War, and the company continues to employ many dwarven miners. Some new warriors have been recruited from the ranks of new refugees, and many of the new recruits seem willing to believe in Crysos' attempts at reconciliation for the humiliations that had been visited upon the dwarves of Wingo Mine.   The financial resources of Crysos Mining Company are surprisingly deep, and they often outbid and outspend the larger Apps Mining Company. This has been what has led to them being such a rising and powerful economic force in Alsona over the past thirty years, giving them a punching power far greater than what many would anticipate. This is largely believed to be from the deep pockets of the company's financiers, as well as from the treasures the company has dug up from the group. The dwarves within the company seem to have a knack for finding rich veins and wealth. Similarly, the support given to the company during the Wingo War helped immensely, as the public became more in favor after numerous reports of dwarven atrocities during the conflict were publicized by the kingdom.

History

Crysos Mining Company was incorporated in 1009, by a collection of Alsonan businessmen and aristocrats. Seeking to undermine the monopoly of the Apps Mining Company was one of the driving goals of this movement, hoping to create fairer prices for those dealing with treasures and ores from the earth. Competition became bitter between the two company for the first ten years, but Crysos proved to have deep pockets and a bottomless source of cheap manpower, using the dwarves from the fallen holds of the Apps. With a dedicated work force and plenty of gold coins to back it up, Crysos clearly won the first round against Apps Mining.   In 1021 what became known as the Wingo War erupted with the uprising of the indentured servants of Wingo Mine. A prisoner uprising led by a general uprising among the settlement led to the destruction of Crysos' most profitable endeavor. The collapse of the mine led to the company requesting support from the kingdom, which sent an army to quell the uprising. An army of dwarves and elves assembled, as the Tenashi Kingdom emerged from hiding, and the Alsonan response force was shattered. Crysos then lost much of its remaining dwarven work force to desertions, as they went to join their brothers in battle. Despite these setbacks, Crysos managed to gather support from the populace after details of what atrocities had been done to their overseers emerged, and they gained financial support from the kingdom.   After the war ended, Crysos has expanded its efforts throughout the Apps themselves, undercutting their old rivals in the Apps Mining Company once again. The stream of dwarven refugees has once more become a torrent, so Crysos continues to benefit. The new mines have proven profitable, and while they are not quite at the same heights of revenue they had been before the war, they are still a powerful force in Alsonan politics.
